Season 3: Episode 5 - Good Genetics with High Pressure Growers

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM OUR GUESTS: Join us this Sunday, March 10th for the 314 Warm Up Pop Up at Uptown Hookah at 2549 Woodson Road in Overland, Missouri. The first twelve to show up get special merch! If you come a little later you still may catch a freebie. VIP tickets are also available for moonrock hookah, prerolls, and other goodies! We’re back on science and all that good stuff for the rest of season three! Based in Saint Louis, High Pressure Growers, known as HPG, is concerned with breaking the stigma and growing c@nn@ as high quality produce. Both their flower and brand are organic. In this episode, HPG shares a bit of knowledge on their genetics work, AKA the reason their bud is so good. We also discuss how not only as a grower, but as a consumer, you can learn about the genetics of your plant! The Recipe: What you need to know to grow: Seed strains from the same breed may have different personalities (feel free to research genotype and phenotype!) You can observe traits (another genetics term!) just by using your senses when and before you light up! Taste the flavor, smell the terpenes, and see the vibrant colors of the plant. Like your pet dog, it may be nice to know the ancestry (Who are the parents?) of your seeds! Environment is key. Think about your temperature, air flow, soil microbiome, and nutrients. episode Season 3: Episode 4 -Sports, Cannabis, and Masculinity with Dr. Nik Dickerson, PhD cover

Season 3: Episode 4 -Sports, Cannabis, and Masculinity with Dr. Nik Dickerson, PhD

Dr. Nik Dickerson is a scholar who talks about the connections between race, masculinity, sport, and of course, our ancestors’ favorite plant. At the beginning of our interview, Nik shared how he got into sports sociology, how plant users are recognized in pop culture, why athletes use c@nnabis, and the importance of Black men defining their own identity. Unfortunately, this part of our interview is unavailable due to recording issues. We’d love to spend more time talking with Dr. Dickerson about plant-using athletes and stoner movies in the future. For now, please enjoy this interview centered on his recent paper for the Sociology of Sport Journal. His identity as a Black American man has shaped his research, and he draws on references from Lovecraft Country, Toni Morrison, and Octavia Butler in order to discuss new ways of thinking about Black masculinity. He also discusses how he uses music in his papers and conferences to retell stories of Black athletes in an honorable way. We end with him discussing how he relates to his own work as a Black man, and close out with our rapid fire round. Guest Biography: Dr Nik Dickerson graduated with a BA in Sport Sociology from Ithaca College in 2005. He then went on to receive an MA in the Cultural Studies of Sport from the University of Maryland (2007), and a PhD in the Cultural Studies of Sport from the University of Iowa (2012). His PhD examined how race, gender, and national identity informed mediated representations of recreational drug use in sport, advertisement, and film. After graduating he served as a lecturer in American Studies at the University of Iowa for three years, and then spent seven years as a Senior Lecturer in Sport Sociology at the University of Lincoln (UK). He can be found at Fuhr_James83 on twitter. ** Note: This is our last episode of 2023, we will be taking some time to review the latest canna scholarship, travel, and most importantly rest. Happy holidays, please be safe and see y’all in 2024!

episode Season 3: Episode 3 - Cannabinoids as Starbucks Drinks with Ariel cover

Season 3: Episode 3 - Cannabinoids as Starbucks Drinks with Ariel

Guest Bio: Ariel is your average twenty year old w*** prodigy- she entered studio B in a navy floral maxi skirt, a head full of dark pink curls, and two nose piercings. She works at Mr. Nice Guy- one of the dopest head shops in Missouri (no pun intended) and educates customers on decisions they make around consumption. She also is a medical patient, plant advocate, and of course, enthusiast. #StreetScholarship #Iconic Sadly enough, she also believes in Harry styles fashion sense more than I do. Tune in to hear us talk about her passions and the topics below! Description: Young people have always experimented with cannabis at a higher rate than their elders. In this episode, we call on the knowledge of a young Black woman who works at a cannabinoid dispensary. In contrast to traditional dispensaries, Cannabinoid dispensaries can be found all over the country due to the hemp bill loophole. This means that people can consume flower in all 50 states! Listen to us compare the effects of cannabinoids in the body to different Starbucks drinks. In this episode, we drop a couple hypotheses including (1) Burning fatter J’s is a waste of flower and (2) society will never ever EVER outgrow the iconic p0t brownie. Justin fact checks this discussion with the latest research.
