Rock vocalist Paulie Z joins Around the Piano for an electrifying conversation about his journey from Brooklyn stages to performing around the world.Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Paulie discovered his passion for music early and quickly found his place on stage as the lead singer and guitarist in local rock bands including Legend, Splivey Cool, and CO2. His breakthrough came with the powerhouse trio ZO2, which he co-founded with his brother David Z. The band gained national attention in 2004 while touring the United States with KISS and Poison, eventually releasing multiple albums and singles.Their real-life story inspired the hit TV series “Z Rock,” which aired for two seasons on IFC, showcasing the band’s unique double life as rock stars at night and kids’ entertainers by day.Beyond ZO2, Paulie has built an impressive career across music, television, and film. He has starred in rock musicals, performed the national anthem at major sporting events, hosted The Paulie Z Show podcast, and was even named New Yorker of the Week for his contributions to music education.After moving to Los Angeles in 2013, Paulie released his debut solo EP and became the host and producer of Ultimate Jam Night, a hugely successful weekly residency at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood.From 2017 to 2020 he toured internationally as the lead singer for the legendary glam rock band Sweet, and he later worked as music producer for The Last Movie Star starring Burt Reynolds. Paulie has also contributed as an associate producer for Crime Door TV seasons 1–3.Most recently, Paulie has taken on the iconic role of Freddie Mercury in the tribute production Bohemian Queen, selling out venues across the country.
