January doesn’t have to be a fresh-start sprint — it can be a soft landing. In this episode of Ask Me When It Hurts, I talk about why I stopped overwhelming myself with New Year’s resolutions and started using January as a month for rest, cleansing, and quiet planning instead. I share the three big goals that changed my last year (new apartment, new connections, and getting support for my mental health) and how giving myself time made all of them possible. Plus, I answer some of your questions from my story: why I moved to Hamburg, whether this still feels cringe sometimes, and my worst NYC experience.

What do the the People think about you, which is not true? ————————————————————————————— In this week’s episode of *Ask Me When It Hurts*, I talk about perspective — how it changes as we grow up, how it reshapes the way we see people, and how sometimes, the smallest conversations can reveal the biggest truths. It’s been one of those weeks that felt more like a life class than just another seven days. My sister and her family came to visit, and through her eyes, I got to relive how exhausting — and yet beautiful — traveling with kids can be. It made me realize how much my parents did for us when we were little and how love often hides behind exhaustion. Later in the week, a diversity class at work pushed me to think about respect and expectations on a deeper level. During one discussion, I remembered a story about a former colleague and a conversation that stayed with me ever since. We talked about what it really means when someone buys another person a drink — and how often hidden expectations turn simple gestures into social contracts no one agreed to sign. Here’s the truth: kindness without strings is rare, but it’s what truly defines character. A drink is not a contract. Respect without expectation is the most attractive thing you can offer. In this episode, I share the lessons behind both stories — one about family, one about respect — and how they reminded me that growing up isn’t always about getting older, but about seeing clearer. Let’s talk about boundaries, empathy, and the freedom that comes when kindness is given freely.

In this Episode of Ask Me When It Hurts, I talk about growing out of party culture, burnout into therapy, setting boundaries and why a quiet, mindful 35th birthday with no hangover was exactly what I needed. I share how loneliness, bullying, racism and sexism shaped my younger self, and why quitting drinking and smoking meant also walking away from people who only liked the unhealthy version of me.
