Ching Shih - The Chinese Pirate Queen with Emily Browning

In our final episode of season two, we learn about the incredible and legendary Ching Shih, the Chinese peasant who began her life as a prostitute and eventually became the most successful pirate in history. We’re joined by the undeniable Emily Browning who kept us howling the entire episode with her hilarious takes.  We start off by learning about the early days of Ching Shih’s life; how she began as a sex worker in a brothel and managed to charm her way into marrying the top pirate commander in all of China. And then amazingly, after his untimely (and perhaps suspicions) death, she took full control of the largest pirate fleet in history, commanding over 1,800 pirate ships, and an estimated 80,000 men. She also instituted the first ‘pirate code of ethics’ and even managed to stave off the British, Portuguese and Chinese navies until she was ultimately able to negotiate a peaceful surrender on her terms. The Ancient Aztecs were WILD with Mateen Stewart

We’re doing a deep dive on one of the most fascinating cultures in history this episode,  the Ancient Aztecs, and have the always  hilarious and charming Mateen Stewart joining as our guest. We start off by digging into many of the unique and fascinating aspects of Ancient Aztecian life, such as the ‘one time forgiveness law’ where any crime could be forgiven, as long as the perpetrator confessed BEFORE being caught.  And of course we dive into the most infamous aspect of Ancient Aztec life, human sacrifices. We finish off the episode looking at some of the most prominent figures in Aztec history, like the famous King Montezuma, and the Spanish conqueror Cortés, who ultimately took down the Aztec empire through a ruthless campaign. Insane Facts About North Korea with Mike Eshaq

This episode we’re doing a deep dive on the most insane and secretive country on earth, North Korea. We start the episode with a brief history of how North Korea was founded, its early ties to the Soviet Union, and how it eventually turned into the isolated and totalitarian nation it is today. We look at some of the truly bizarre rules and customs, like how every visitor is required to pay homage to giant statues of the Kim family upon arrival, and pay a visit to the Sinchon Museum of American War Atrocities (which is essentially a giant wax museum of Anti-American propaganda).
