Listen, Honey! The Next Big Thing in Music from Kentucky Might Be Hunter Flynn!

Listen, Honey! You may have noticed a little bit of buzz on social media the last few weeks about a singer-songwriter from Kentucky named Hunter Flynn [https://hunterflynn.com/]. He's from Pulaski County, Kentucky, which is right down the road from me. So I hollered at him to come sing me some songs and talk about his music. It turns out his first single from his debut full-length album dropped today! It's called "Wasted Days [https://open.spotify.com/artist/5j6t35Ik2EoS5efJDxOAS2?si=NZZ2M9P8RO2yBpOTEtr59w]." The new album is coming later this summer. It'll be called Roots. Hunter has an EP called Appalachian Soul [https://open.spotify.com/album/5WLsN3mXVGxMdhqGtGb6rb?si=cjG0qTJdSeW-3iXrDu16RQ] that came out in 2023. Between that and the singles he's dropped since, I've become addicted to his songs and his sound. I don't want to put any pressure on him, but other people have said this, so blame them: If you like Tyler Childers, you're gonna like Hunter Flynn. We talked about his wild journey to being a songwriter that included a near-death experience that helped him decide he wouldn't live another day on this earth doing something he didn't love doing. Not only has it all worked out, but he's got a full band now, a new album coming, and the country music media are starting to talk about it. We've got him on Listen, Honey! And right before he takes off, y'all! Find and follow Hunter Flynn on Spotify [https://open.spotify.com/artist/5j6t35Ik2EoS5efJDxOAS2?si=NZZ2M9P8RO2yBpOTEtr59w], Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/h_nterflynn/] or TikTok [https://www.tiktok.com/@hunter_flynn]. Listen, Honey! Spring Has Sprung and Things Are A Brewin'!

Listen, Honey! We're back at the house this week and are workin' honey! Lucy and I have been tending to the baby chicks which are getting their adult feathers in, we've put up some birdfeeders because Momma will feed them birds, now. We've been sitting in our camper chairs in the garage with our binoculars learning bird species. One thing I have learned is that Blue Jay females make their husbands go get their food, honey! Or at least that's what I'm telling myself. These things are wilder than hell. Now, things were off for a few weeks at the house. There was just a weird vibe going on so I felt the need to sage the house. My Granny was part Cherokee and she believed in that as much as prayin'. And the next two days after, I saw signs that it worked. You'll have to watch the episode to hear the proof! We've also been getting the garden going. And eating popsicles. I've also been reflecting on my motherhood journey and am so grateful God gave me Lucy. Motherhood has made me a better woman, it's brought out my feminine side, and given me permission to just be a girly girl with my baby. On that note, Mother's Day is coming up, y'all. Do something nice for yourself and have a happy and wonderful Mother's Day. I've got a lot going on right now behind the scenes so I'm going to take a couple weeks off of the regular podcast schedule, but you can expect us back May 22nd with an interview with singer-songwriter Hunter Flynn. But enjoy this episode of the podcast, honey! I'll see you soon right back here and, of course, somewhere this summer on my Hillbilly Tour Bus! The camper is almost ready to hit the road. I'm gonna need it, too. You can find me this summer at Laurel Cove June 11-12. Then the next day (June 13) I'm heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair [https://www.vakyfair.com/]. July 10-11 I'll be in Ashland at the Rock the Country event. Then I'll be at the Master Musicians Festival [https://mastermusiciansfestival.org/] in Somerset, Ky., the next weekend. One of my favorite events is the Manchester Music Fest September 3-5. Then, in October, I'll be in Pikeville, Ky., for the Mountain Grrl Experience [https://www.mountaingrrlexperience.com/]. Y'all are gonna have to come see the Listen, Honey Hillbilly Tour Bus! Of course, I'm still holding steady on my weight loss journey with Amble. I've lost 80 pounds! Listen, Honey! Kentucky Singer-Songwriter Zach Day Returns Home to Take Over The World

Listen, Honey! Y'all know that we Kentuckians support our own more so than a lot of communities do. So when McCreary County, Kentucky native Zach Day [https://www.tiktok.com/@youknowzachmusic] was featured on season 19 of The Voice in 2020 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSI6ZHq5XFE], we were glued to our sets. He was chosen immediately by judge John Legend, then by Kelly Clarkson and spent some individual coaching time with Legend before being eliminated. But eliminated is not in Zach's vocabulary. He moved to Nashville, then later to Los Angeles, and has been performing all over the world. I'm not kidding y'all! He's performed in England, Poland and all over the United States. Zach just recently moved back to Stearns, Kentucky, right next to his grandparents (as we do) and found out as he was moving home that he landed a record deal! He'll be spending most of this coming summer working on songs and will hopefully be set to take over the world with his new album in 2027. Zach and I talked about the common thread for a lot of artists (and people from the LGBTQ community) in Eastern Kentucky: He felt like he had to leave to find success. But as time has changed and he's gotten older, he realized he needed to return home to find himself. This was so much fun and I'm so excited for Zach. I'm glad y'all get to see and hear how wonderful he truly is. Find and follow Zach Day on TikTok [https://www.tiktok.com/@youknowzachmusic] and Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/youknowzach/]. Oh, and don't forget Amble, y'all! You know I've lost 80 pounds. They're helping me on my weight loss journey and y'all know I've lost a bunch of weight, right? Listen, Honey! We've got baby chicks, a new camper and hillbilly children sleepovers

Listen, Honey! We're back at the house this week (actually Easter week) and you know I get moved by the spirit. So my step-sister and I went all over hell and tarnation buying baby chicks. And you know I can't say "no" to a bargain, especially when I know the Tractor Supply will cut the price if we offer to take every damn one of 'em. So I have to tell you all about that and the chicken coops and Dylan and I are talking about getting goats, too. But it's also gardening season so we need to talk about carrots and onions and potatoes (I'm late to plan them this year). And don't get me started on a greenhouse. I love a greenhouse. I also have to catch you up on a little post-partum anxiety because Lucy had her first sleepover. I'm telling ya: Post-partum is WILD. But that anxiety was a little balanced out because my family suckered me into coming to a surprise birthday party. And we HAVE A CAMPER! Let me tell you … I've already promoted it to a tour bus and I am going on a nice event tour this summer. You'll find me at Laurel Cove June 11-12. Then the next day (June 13) I'm heading to Wise, Va., for the Kentucky-Virginia District Fair [https://www.vakyfair.com/]. July 10-11 I'll be in Ashland at the Rock the Country event. I'm back on track with my GLP1 after vacation, so make sure you don't forget Amble. They're helping me on my weight loss journey and vacation aside, I've lost 80 pounds! Listen, Honey! New Frontier's Ravenscraft Brothers Are Our People!

Listen, Honey! It's one thing to find an apparel company whose designs you like. It's a whole 'nother thing to sit down and talk to the brothers that founded it and have built a fun, successful small business doing the things that you like to do: Be good people. Jared [https://www.instagram.com/jaredravenscraft/] and Joshua Ravenscraft [https://www.instagram.com/joshua_ravenscraft/] are good people, y'all. The brothers founded New Frontier [https://newfrontierbrand.com] 10 years ago to honor the spirit of Appalachia by designing purpose-driven apparel that celebrates hard work, heritage and home. They told me they just didn't think Appalachia (or Eastern Kentucky … Mountain people … my people) were seen by the big apparel brands out there like Old Navy and the like. (No offense to them, of course. They can't speak to every sliver of culture when they're that big.) So the Ravenscraft boys started with $200 and started making hats. Fast forward a decade later and New Frontier is a big damn deal in these parts. They have everything from hoodies to socks and denim to camo shirts. They're still small and based in Morehead, Kentucky, but they have a very successful online store, design clothing for special customers like my favorite bluegrass band (The Creekers [https://www.thecreekersband.com/]), and distribute to wholesalers all over the place. We talked about how they started the business, what working with your brother as a business partner is like and all that. But we also just talked … about campfires and basketball and accents and the Amish. We went through their list of what music they listen to, what festivals and events they're going to this summer. It was a good ole, Listen, Honey sit down. Give the episode a watch or listen and be sure to share it with your friends. Especially single women who may have a CDL! Oh, and don't forget Amble, y'all!
