The Metaverse

An area of the cryptoverse that has exploded in popularity in the past few years (and has seen an ensuing sharp decline with the recent sell-off of markets) is the gaming/metaverse space. These are networks of 3D virtual worlds (cyberspace) focused on socialisation and have now begun to creep into mainstream society. Allegra & Victor return this week to explain their impacts on the cryptocurrency market and why investors should take note of this emerging space! This SI episode explores the metaverse and simply explains just what the heck it is. Inflation

With the current inflationary environment surrounding the many developed economies of the world, Allegra & Victor have come at a timely fashion to explore the nuances associated with inflation and its impacts on you as an individual investor. The monetary stimulus provided by most central banks as a response to the pandemic has created an oversupply of currencies and this in-turn has generated unprecedented "wealth effects" among consumers. Non-fungible Tokens

Allegra & Victor return this week to explore an element of the "wild-west" of the cryptoverse - non-fungible tokens. NFTs are unique strings of code attached to digital assets and are secured through the blockchain, giving them the property of non-fungibility - each asset is unique and derives a singular value. We start off this episode by explaining what non-fungible tokens essentially are, how you would go about purchasing your first NFT, trading platofrms/marketplaces you can use to exchange NFTs, how NFTs are different to other cryptocurrency assets, and what the risks & benefits are of investing in non-fungible tokens. Whilst they are not new and have been around since 2014, NFTs have exploded in popularity in recent years. The market for NFTs was worth a staggering $41bn in 2021, an amount approaching the total value of the entire global fine art market - so this is definitely a space in the cryptoverse worth understanding! Interest Rates

This week, we dive into everything you've ever wanted to know about interest rates - touted as the "backbone" of the economy through their determinant of the "time value of money" and through pricing-in risk. In this episode, we explain just what the heck interest rates are, how they work, why they matter, what they mean for you as the retail investor, how you should approach any interest rate changes, and whether you should be factoring interest rate changes into your investment decisions - if so, how? We are in the midst of macroeconomic uncertainty; markets around the world have reacted unfavourably to central bank monetary tightening (rising interest rates), and we have observed sell-offs of varying magnitudes over the past few months. Such is why the savvy investor should continue to closely monitor the global interest rate environment to identify key risks and opportunities.
