The battle for American values and traditional womanhood. The Homespun Movement began in 1767, in response to the British Townshend Acts. The American Revolution was in its early stages. The women of the American colonies, filling a need brought on by the boycott of British goods, began making their own cloth as an act of rebellion. Cotton, linen and wool were fabricated, many times in social events. The resulting cloth came to be known as homespun and was worn as a patriotic symbol for the fight against British tyranny. The Homespun movement was born.
