Portada del episodio Ep. 6: The Connectome with Dr. Michael Tadross

Ep. 6: The Connectome with Dr. Michael Tadross

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind the Connectome. Using material presented in Brain Facts [https://www.brainfacts.org/-/media/Brainfacts2/BrainFacts-Book/Brain-Facts-PDF-with-links.pdf] published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about how our neurons communicate with one another, and how our brain is able to encode information to interpret, process, and respond to the different stimuli in our environment.  My guest is Dr. Michael Tadross [https://www.tadrosslab.com/tadross], an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurobiology at Duke University. Dr. Tadross has developed a cutting-edge tool for cell-type-specific pharmacology, DART (drug acutely restricted by tethering). His lab is a combination of engineers and neuroscientists working together to address conceptual questions in neuroscience. Timestamps: (00:00:00 - 00:01:00) Intro (00:01:00 - 00:06:46) Neural Circuits (Ankit Only) (00:06:46 - 01:30:38) Conversation with Dr. Tadross (01:30:38 - 01:32:21) Outro Website: https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/ [https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/] Email: brainbeepodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @brainbeepodcast [https://twitter.com/brainbeepodcast] Hosted by @iAnkitChoudhury [https://twitter.com/iAnkitChoudhury]. Ep. 5: Language Processing and Birdsong with Dr. Marc Schmidt

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind Language Processing and Birdsong. Using material presented in Brain Facts [https://www.brainfacts.org/-/media/Brainfacts2/BrainFacts-Book/Brain-Facts-PDF-with-links.pdf] published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about how our brain is able to make sense of speech sounds and some of the major brain regions involved with language processing. My guest is Dr. Marc Schmidt [https://www.bio.upenn.edu/people/marc-schmidt], a Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts & Sciences and the Co-Director of the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program. His lab is broadly interested in understanding the neural mechanisms that underlie courtship display utilizing songbirds.  Timestamps: (00:00:00 - 00:00:55) - Intro (00:00:56 - 00:07:34) - Language Processing (Ankit Only) (00:07:35 - 01:17:44) - Conversation with Dr. Schmidt (01:17:45 - 01:19:05) - Outro Website: https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/ [https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/] Email: brainbeepodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @brainbeepodcast [https://twitter.com/brainbeepodcast] Hosted by @iAnkitChoudhury [https://twitter.com/iAnkitChoudhury]. Ep. 4: Addiction with Dr. Julie Blendy

In today’s episode, I review the neuroscience behind Addiction. Using material presented in the Brain Facts Book published by the Society for Neuroscience, I talk about the neurological basis of addiction and the effect it has on the brain.  My guest is Dr. Julie Blendy, a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Where she is a member of the Institute for Neurological Science and the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics. In addition to that, she also serves as the Chair of the Pharmacology Graduate Group. Her lab is broadly interested in understanding the molecular basis for the biochemical and behavioral changes associated with chronic drug use.  Timestamps: (00:00:00 - 00:00:51) Intro (00:00:52 - 00:05:31) Addiction (Ankit Only) (00:05:32 - 00:57:05) Conversation with Dr. Blendy (00:57:06 - 00:58:48) Outro Website: https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/ [https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/] Email: brainbeepodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @brainbeepodcast [https://twitter.com/brainbeepodcast] Hosted by @iAnkitChoudhury [https://twitter.com/iAnkitChoudhury]. Ep. 3: Alzheimer's Disease with Dr. David Holtzman

In today’s episode, we review the neuroscience behind Alzheimer’s Disease. Using material presented in Brain Facts [https://www.brainfacts.org/-/media/Brainfacts2/BrainFacts-Book/Brain-Facts-PDF-with-links.pdf] published by the Society for Neuroscience, we talk about the prevalence and impact of the disease, the symptoms, how it is typically diagnosed, proposed causes and pathology, the genetics of the disease, and current treatments.  Our guest is Dr. David Holtzman [https://holtzmanlab.wustl.edu/], MD, the Barbara Burton and Reuben M. Morriss III Distinguished Professor of Neurology, the Scientific Director for the Hope Center for Neurological Disorders, and Associate Director of the Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the Washington University School of Medicine. His lab is mainly focused on trying to understand the basic mechanism that underlies neurodegeneration, particularly as they are relevant to Alzheimer’s Disease. In addition to being a renowned neurologist and neuroscientist, Dr. Holtzman is the co-founder of C2N Diagnostics, former chair of the Washington University Department of Neurology, and has served as the president of the American Neurological Association.  Timestamps: * (00:00:00 - 00:00:53) - Intro * (00:00:54 - 00:18:46) - Alzheimer’s Disease (Ankit Only) * (00:18:47 - 01:09:09) - Conversation with Dr. Holtzman * (01:09:10 - 01:10:17) - Outro Website: https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/ [https://sites.wustl.edu/slabb/study-aids/] Email: brainbeepodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @brainbeepodcast [https://twitter.com/brainbeepodcast] Hosted by @iAnkitChoudhury [https://twitter.com/iAnkitChoudhury].
