Acerca de How They're Doing It

Living in a world where the best parts of our lives are highlighted through social media, feeling as though we’re the only ones who have yet to figure things out becomes inevitable. However, as we focus on comparing our life to everybody else’s highlight reel, we forget to recognize that behind every perfect picture we see, comes a much more complicated and intricate story. How They’re Doing It with Lana Amoudi is an opportunity for us to delve deeper into those stories, become vulnerable with one another, and truly understand what it means to have things “all figured out”. This podcast features deep, personal, and eye-opening conversations with people who inspire Lana about where they’ve been, who they’ve come to be, and where they think they’re going. Together, we can focus less on figuring it all out and more on learning to embrace all that life has to offer- good, bad, and everything in between.Contact: @htdipodcast on Instagram or htdipodcast@gmail.com

Today's episode is with Homayra Ahmed, an emergency nurse who graduated from McMaster University. In this episode, Homayra talks about how she navigated some of her most difficult experiences- 3 part time jobs, personal hospitalization, homelessness, the pandemic- all while supporting her family and working to obtain her nursing degree. Combating The Unexpected Consequences of Early Success (ft. Peter Yang)

Although he has yet to explore his options, Peter has experienced great success at a very young age. His journey started when he became an international best-selling author at the age of 15 and later founded Reviewrly. His book, The Art of Writing, sold more than 4,000 copies worldwide and his company has been featured on the Global News Radio, the Hamilton Spectator, Cable 14, and the front page of Product Hunt. One would assume that someone as successful as Peter, especially this early in his journey, has his entire future all figured out and opportunities are lined up for him right outside the door. However, is that actually the case?  In this episode, Peter gives us deeper insight into what goes on behind the scenes. We talk about his ambitions, the sacrifices he had to make to reach his goals, his regrets, dealing with imposter syndrome, grappling with his own mental health, the pressure of living up to everyone’s expectations and so much more. Connecting Passion With Purpose (ft. Shilbee Dhalla-Kim)

In this week’s episode, Lana is joined by someone whose passion is so contagious that she channeled her passion towards helping others find theirs. Shilbee Dhalla-Kim is a passion coach for entrepreneurs, community builders, and change makers. She supports leaders in clarifying their passions, leadership approaches and business models. You can explore her work and the amazing projects she’s done at www.shilbee.com [http://www.shilbee.com] Shilbee gives us deeper insight into her journey to becoming a passion coach and beyond. As an Asian immigrant to Canada, we talk about the hate and discrimination her family faced, how the frustration and anger she felt was channeled into a passion project in university, and despite not knowing what career she wanted to pursue and years of circling back and forth between a variety of different positions, she found her passion in coaching others to find theirs. However, deciding to step out of the ordinary path is not as easy as it sounds. With the label of being a passion coach comes buckets of reactions, financial dilemmas and fears. Did Shilbee ever overcome those obstacles? If she did, how did she overcome them? In addition to Shilbee’s journey, she shares concrete advice on the importance of community (who may or may not be a part of it), being honest with oneself, and the concept of Ikigai, which is a Japanese framework that helps people identify their reason of being (one that Shilbee uses during her coaching sessions).   Follow How They’re Doing It on Instagram: @htdipodcast Or send us an email: htdipodcast@gmail.com [htdipodcast@gmail.com]
