Acerca de Queer As Fliuch

Queer as Fliuch will aim to document the evolution of Irish Queer history through the voices of those who have lived through it. From the early days of a small social movement of the 1970s, to the death of Declan Flynn in 1982, decriminalisation in 1993, to becoming the first-ever country to ratify same-sex marriage through popular vote in 2015, we look at all of this and more. Hosted by stand-up comedian, Sinéad Walsh. Researched by Emer McGinnity. Produced and hosted by Acast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Portada del episodio Joan McCarthy: Amongst My Own People

Joan McCarthy: Amongst My Own People

For our final episode of the season, we have a chin wag with Joan McCarthy. This was a joy of an episode to do. Joan is a proud Kerry woman, but has lived in Cork for most of her life. She was part of the Cork Women’s Collective and the UCC women’s group. She was also involved in the development of the Quay Co-Op in Cork City. She is an author, activist, and educator in healthcare. Joan was also a rockstar and theatre performer. She also co-founded and co-chaired, with Cathal Kerrigan, the UCC LGBT staff network, the first LGBT university staff network in Ireland. And, if that isn't enough, she co-edited the first collection of feminist authors writing on nursing ethics (Nursing Ethics: Feminist Perspectives, Springer: 2020). What a human! Enjoy. Researched and Produced by Emer McGinnity. Hosted by Acast. Katherine O'Donnell (Part 2): They Locked Up The Best Of Us

Part 2 of our interview with Katherine O'Donnell. In this episode, we talk about the experience of writing a novel, the impact of abusive relationships, and the battles for hearts and minds in what is an increasingly fraught Ireland. Katherine O'Donnell is Professor, History of Ideas, at UCD School of Philosophy University College Dublin, Ireland. She has been an activist for many years, involved in, most notably, the Justice for Magdalenes Campaign and, more generally, with justice issues and the LGBTQ+ community. She published her debut novel Slant [https://www.vibesandscribes.ie/products/slant-by-katherine-odonnell.html] in 2023.
