‘’I’ll get a Wimpy’’ In this spine-tingling, synth-dripping episode, Dave and Tom bravely descend into the dangerously underfunded corridors of Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, where the beats are as haunted as the hospital and the budget is flatter than Dr. Rick Dagless M.D.’s coke float (sorry Dag). The lads lovingly dissect the iconic soundtrack, including the sultry (and questionably HR-compliant) anthem “One Track Lover,” which proves that romance is alive and well, as long as it’s extremely repetitive and slightly unsettling. Meanwhile, “Scotch Mist” drifts in like a fog of pure ‘80s ambience, or possibly just a side effect of something Dr. Lucien Sanchez left uncapped in the lab. Expect deep dives into other standout tracks that sound like they were composed on a haunted Casio keyboard during a power outage. We’ll also pay tribute to the unforgettable cast: Garth Marenghi himself (author, visionary, dreamweaver, definitely not compensating), Dean Learner (producer, ladies’ man, bearer of mysterious subplots), and the ever-intense Liz Asher, who brings both psychic energy and questionable medical credentials to the mix. “Thundercats, Thundercats, Thundercats….HOOOOOO!!!” Dust off your VHS tapes and prepare for a nostalgia overload! In this episode, the boys dive headfirst into the gloriously over-the-top world of 1980s cartoon theme tunes. We’re talking heroic guitar riffs, synths that could power a small city, and lyrics that explain the entire plot before the first ad break. Among others, the chaps unravel the epic, thunderous drama of Thundercats (because subtlety was clearly illegal in the '80s), marvel at how Inspector Gadget made “go-go” sound like a legitimate strategy, and groove through the high-octane cool of M.A.S.K (where the theme song is somehow faster than the cars). Oh…and of course, we’ll take a deep dive into DuckTales, the only theme that can make you want to solve mysteries, manage a billionaire’s finances, and dance like Beyoncé at the same time. Expect big tunes, bigger nostalgia, and at least one co-host attempting a dramatic “DuckTales! AWoo-oo!” (badly).
