Getting Ideas for Products (Podcast #151)

[http://theiminsidetrack.com/members/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/product_ideas-300x300.jpg]You want to grow your business by releasing products you know people will love. You want to leave an impact by releasing fantastic products that really benefit people. You also know that product creation is one of the best ways to earn money online. You truly can build a fantastic business, affect people’s lives in a positive way, and earn a great income doing it. So, why haven’t you gotten started yet? Or, maybe you have gotten started with product creation but you aren’t sure you have any good ideas. Perhaps you’ve released a product that totally bombed because it wasn’t a good idea after all. Idea generation is one of those things that many product creators struggle with. That shouldn’t be the case – in fact you should be so full of ideas that you could never actually create all of the ideas you’ve come up with. People are often surprised when they get an idea of how many product ideas I have waiting in the wings. That’s because I’m constantly generating new ideas. I’ve really honed in my ability to be creative when it comes to coming up with fantastic ideas for products. That’s definitely something you can do as well. You can become a wonderful product creator with an endless supply of amazing, profitable ideas for products. WHAT MAKES A GREAT PRODUCT IDEA? First, let’s talk about what constitutes a good idea for a product. I’ll assume that you want to create products that really impact people and help people. Info products are typically created on problems that people need solutions for. I’ll also assume that you want to make money with the products you create. That means you have to find ideas for people who will be willing to spend money on the solutions and information you’re offering them. A good product is something that’s very needed in the marketplace and is also something people are willing to spend money on. You also have to make sure that your product stands out. Sure, there will probably be other products on the market that are similar or that tackle the same topic. But, there should be something, or more than one thing, that sets your product apart from other products on the market. There has to be something unique about the product you’re going to create. UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY One of the most important parts of this is becoming more creative. You might not realize it right now, but you are a very creative person. We are all born with the ability to be creative. One important step in becoming more creative is actually giving yourself time off. Have you ever noticed that some of your best ideas come to you while you’re in the car or while you’re in the shower or while you doing something else unrelated to work? That’s how the brain works. If you turn your mind off away from work and stop trying to force it, then those highly creative ideas might start to come to you. Get in touch with nature, have fun, and brainstorm with others. These are all ideas that can help you become more creative. Start to train your brain to produce these creative ideas by keeping a notebook of the ideas that come to you. Write down absolutely every product idea you have – even if you have the urge to reject it outright. Ideas beget ideas. You never know where your ideas will take you. RESEARCH THE MARKETPLACE Another great way to get ideas is to research what’s going on in the market. There are always new products and new books being released on profitable, popular topics. It’s a good idea for you to stay on top of all these things. When you start to look into the ideas others have, you’ll start to make new connections based on what’s already selling well. You’ll start to come up with your own great ideas. It’s also really helpful to get to know the people in your audience. What do they talk about online? Get a feel for what they talk about and what their needs are based on what they post on social media and related forums. Take a look at the reviews they’ve left for other products on the market. Really get a feel for this audience and the types of products you can create for them. COMBINE OLD IDEAS There’s an argument to be made that there are no truly new ideas out there – that all “new” ideas are combinations of old ideas. Whenever you’re feeling totally tapped for ideas, you can absolutely use that philosophy for yourself as a product creator. The more you immerse yourself in your niche and start to grab hold of your natural creativity, the more ideas you’ll have. You can also start to commiserate with other product creators. You can bounce ideas off of each other, brainstorm, and have mastermind sessions. When you combine ideas of other powerful, creative people with similar goals, you can come up with some incredible things. RELEASE PRODUCTS BASED ON YOUR IDEAS It’s very important that you don’t just keep a notebook of ideas that you never use. You have to actually create products based on these ideas, or this will have been a futile effort. Sometimes, it can be scary to create something based on the ideas you’ve had. Don’t let it scare you for long– let it empower you. That’s because you can really only see what will work once you start creating. Create products and test your market. Figure out what your customers like and don’t like. Let them give you ideas – your customers are going to have the best ideas for exactly what they need and want out of the products they buy. Grow your list, release products, keep a notebook of ideas, and rinse and repeat. Let your customers inspire you and come up with even more ideas. This is how you achieve true success as a product creator. IT’S NOT HARD TO COME UP WITH IDEAS FOR PRODUCTS As you can see, it’s not that difficult at all to come up with fantastic ideas for great products. You just have to make it a habit of yours to invite your mind to create and explore new ideas.

Benefits of Paid Traffic (Podcast #150)

[http://theiminsidetrack.com/members/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/paid_advertising-300x206.jpg]There are so many different ways to get traffic. Honestly, it’s all a little exhausting sometimes. What’s the right and wrong way to do it? I’ll save you some strife and aggravation right now—there’s no “right” way to get traffic. It’s most often beneficial to have several methods of driving traffic at one time. With that said, there’s one form of traffic generation I see small business owners skipping over and over again. It’s almost as if they’re scared of it. That’s a real shame, because it’s one of the best ways to get in there fast and start earning fast. I’m talking about paid traffic. You can pay for ads, banners, and things of that nature. You can pay for ads on sites like Google Adwords, Facebook, and more. You can buy banners on popular forums. You can pay for integrated or sponsored ads on sites like Twitter. You can join ad networks to become featured on highly related sites on the web. WHY DO PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM PAID ADS? Before we talk about the benefits that can come along with paying for ads, let’s talk about some of the things that tend to scare people and keep them away from paid ads. People often think paid ads are expensive or totally out of their price range. They might feel like paying for ads is for other people—for bigger businesses or those who’ve been more successful. The truth is that you can run successful paid ads for as little as a few dollars a day. That’s in your budget, right? And once you start to earn some with very small budget ads, you can pour some of your profits into running more ads. That can help you very quickly scale your business up. Others stay away from paid ads because they get it into their mind that it’s somehow better or more effective to focus on free ads. Why pay for ads when you can advertise for free? There’s some logic to that thinking, but you’re really missing the boat if you think that free ads can ever totally replace paid ads or that you should focus on one without the other. Free ads can be effective. Paid ads can be effective. In combination, they’re unstoppable. There’s also an element of fear that can appear when people who are new to this consider whether they want to pay for ads or not. Are you going to lose all your money? Will the paid ads really pay off? If you’re smart about it, you won’t lose your money—you’ll earn money. Paid ads can really pay off for you. Don’t fear paid ads. Take that first step and get started paying for ads so you can start to see results right away and you can start earning more and having a better reach in your business. IT’S BEST TO BUILD YOUR LIST WITH PAID ADS Building your list should be at the top of your priorities at all times. The same holds true for paid ads. Some people get started with paid ads and drive all of their traffic straight to their sales page. That’s effective and best in certain situations. But I’d say most of the time, it’s best to drive your paid ads to a squeeze page or opt-in form of some kind so you can build your list. Think about the reasoning here. If you pay for an ad and send someone to a sales page, they may or may not buy. If they click away and don’t buy, you’ve lost them forever. Consider that not everyone will be ready to buy on first contact. When you pay for ads, it’s often going to be the first time someone hears of you or your product. Your conversions won’t be as high as they would be if you were marketing to those who’ve had a chance to get to know you. If you send people to a squeeze page first where you’re giving something away, you’ll get many, many more people on your list than you would if you were relying on a sales page where people would have to pull out their credit card to buy something before getting on your email list. Give people something free. Link to this page from your ad. Once they’ve opted in, you can then present your sales page. You can also market to them via email. This is really the missing piece for many marketers who struggle with paid ads. If you get people on your list you’ll have a real asset of customers instead of just the chance of a one-off sale. START SMALL AND BUILD YOUR WAY UP FROM THERE You don’t have to start advertising with a budget into the hundreds or thousands. You can start out with a budget of just $5 a day or so. One of the easiest ad types to get started with is Facebook. Facebook allows you to run extremely targeted ads. You can restrict your budget as low as you want. The better your ads do, the less you’ll pay per click. Once you start earning with a small budget, you can roll some of your profits back into your business and move your ad budget up and up. This gives you a chance to start earning and start seeing success before you really commit to this in increasing amounts. FINDING YOUR OWN PAID AD OPPORTUNITIES In addition to the typical ads Internet marketers tend to buy, you can also find your own paid opportunities. You can save yourself money this way and really stand out because next to no one is doing this. There are plenty of blogs, websites, and forums out there that aren’t really running any ads to speak of. There are plenty of highly trafficked sites whose owners aren’t running ads because they aren’t sure how to get into it and just have never done it. Or, it could be that they only run ads manually on a case by case basis. That’s great for you. You can find websites, blogs, and more that are very closely related to your business or product. See if these people are running ads already. Maybe they are even advertising low-cost ad space. Contact them and see what kind of deal you can work up about your ad. You can even contact them if they don’t currently have ads up. Work out some kind of deal so your site, product, or squeeze page can be featured or linked to. There are plenty of opportunities out there if you’re willing to do a little digging. This is the perfect method for those who are a little hesitant to get started with paid ads. PAID ADS TELL YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW RIGHT AWAY Free traffic can be great. It’s well worth putting your efforts into free advertising. But, it’s usually even more worth it if you’ve already done some testing and have started earning with paid ads. You could be up and running with a paid ad in the next few minutes. You could be seeing clicks and conversions within the hour. That means you can start making money with paid ads, today. You can start building your list with paid ads, today. Compare that to free advertising. With a few exceptions, it usually takes a long time for free ads to pay off, if they ever do. You might have a poorly converting sales page or squeeze page… but you won’t find that out until that free traffic finally finds your pages. That can take days, weeks, or months. Or, that page might be converting really, really well… but you won’t know that you should pour even more of your efforts into getting more traffic to that page until that free traffic (articles, etc.) finally pay off. Paid ads tell you what you need to know right away. Free ads take longer. Use paid ads to test how your pages are converting. Use that knowledge to earn more in your business with both free and paid ads. PAID ADS ARE WORTH IT Paid ads are worth it even if you’re new to this. They can give you fast information about conversions and sales. They can help you figure out if you should pour more money, effort, and time into getting even more traffic to the page if it’s doing well. Paid ads don’t have to be as expensive as you might think. You can get started with a very low budget. You can work your way up from there. If you want to earn more in your business, paid ads are a great way to do that. Don’t fear paid ads—use them to your advantage.

Virtual Real Estate (Podcast #149)

[http://theiminsidetrack.com/members/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/virtual_real_estate-238x300.jpg]How wealthy could you be if you saw untouched real estate in a new area, and bought it all up right before the area saw a boom? You could rent that property out or flip it and make some fantastic passive income. That’s the dream, right? It certainly sounds nice. Although the idea of putting up all that money to wait for a return on physical real estate investment certainly is scary. Still, there are plenty of people who’ve gotten incredibly wealthy in real estate, doing exactly what I described above. What I’m about to tell you is that you can do the same thing, only with much, much less investment, less risk, and potentially just as much reward. Does that sound crazy? Maybe it is. It’s also possible, through the power of the Internet and virtual real estate. There are some people who think the days of profiting wildly from virtual real estate are over. That doesn’t have to be the case. There are different ways you can make this happen. You can build niche websites that earn for you, day and night. You can buy domain names that you flip for profit. You can buy underperforming, already-built websites and tweak them to profitability. You can focus your efforts on spreading news of your business in every relevant corner of the web, becoming a great authority and high earner in your niche. Any or all of these methods can help you earn a great income, whether you’re actively working or not. BUILDING AND PROFITING FROM NICHE WEBSITES There are so many different ways you can profit from niche websites. You can build very specific “mini” niche websites that target a very specific product or group of products. Or, you can take up more virtual space with an authority site that’s larger and dominates in your niche. Either option is a good one, and there are pluses and minuses to either. With mini sites, you might find it easier to rank quickly. However, those results may only last if you add fresh content and work on the long tail. With an authority site, you might have to build up content over time before you see real benefits. Although, if you spend time on really growing the site and making sure it’s the best spot on the web for people in that niche. You’ll build a real presence in the niche. Whichever option you choose, your goal should be to dominate in certain areas on the web that are profitable. You’ll choose profitable niches, write content (a lot of content over time), connect with the audience, and promote products. Your website (or websites) will be up and active day and night. That means you can earn passively with your virtual real estate, day or night. BUYING AND FLIPPING DOMAIN NAMES Let’s say you don’t love the idea of creating content or dealing with search engine optimization or anything like that. Does that mean you’re out of the virtual real estate game? No, it doesn’t. What you can do is take advantage of the profitable domain names that are out there. What you can do is research domain names that have the potential for profitability. You can register these domain names and list them for sale. If you have several of these domain names registered and listed for sale, you can earn passive income as buyers find your names and buy them from you. You can also set up simple websites for this virtual website. This can further entice buyers and help you flip the names—or not. Sometimes it’s worth doing this and other times it’s not. Figure out what will work for the needs of those who are likely to buy your domain names. FLIPPING WEBSITES Another thing you can do to profit from virtual real estate is to buy websites that are already set up and potentially profiting. There are plenty of people out there who have created websites that they no longer want to maintain. Some of these websites have a lot of great potential. There are some people who offer turnkey websites that are ready to go, and were always meant for a buyer. There are also websites for sale that are already profitable. You can buy up this virtual real estate (different kinds depending on your budget and plans for your business) and tweak it to make it even better. You can make it even more profitable. Once it’s profitable, you can leave it running for you so you can have a passive income over time. Or, you can flip it to others to profit instantly from. You can do a combination of both. Buying and selling websites is a great path for those who want passive income, combined with the chance for instant income. BUILDING AUTHORITY IN EVERY CORNER OF THE WEB You can make it your goal to transform your current business into one of authority. You should take up all the virtual real estate you possibly can, for this option. I don’t just mean having a website—you might also have a Facebook group, LinkedIn account, web 2.0 properties, Tumblr, a forum, a membership site, etc. You want to be seen absolutely everywhere possible in your niche. The more virtual real estate you take up in a profitable niche, the more likely you are to earn. This can turn into a great, passive income stream for you. You can have recurring income streams set up as part of this. One idea is to run a paid membership forum or membership site, like my own Earn 1K a Day. This virtual real estate has been very profitable for me over the years. CHOOSE YOUR PATH AND BUILD A PASSIVE INCOME WITH VIRTUAL REAL ESTATE As you can see, there are plenty of options for you to choose from. Hopefully, one of them appeals to you. The fact is that it’s important to own virtual real estate for your business, no matter what your focus. You can use virtual real estate for instant income, passive income, or recurring income. With some models, you can achieve any or all of the above. This is very exciting, and it’s never been more possible to succeed with this than it is today.

How Creating Habits Can Help You Succeed (Podcast #148)

[http://theiminsidetrack.com/members/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/creating_habits-200x300.jpg]Do our habits make us who we are and determine whether we’re successful, healthy, and happy? Perhaps that’s partially true—maybe even mostly true. But it does not mean you’re forever doomed to live the life you’re currently living. You are not a victim of your habits and you can control them. It is absolutely possible to change your habits for the better so you can be happier, healthier, and more successful. But, the reality of habit change is that it’s usually hard work—especially if you don’t have time-tested strategies at your disposal. If it were generally easy to change one’s habits, the billions of dollars that get poured into the self-help market wouldn’t be necessary. Everyone would live blissful lives with perfect habits that they could change and adjust on a whim. Everyone would end up doing exactly what they need and want to do. Sounds great, right? We all know that it just doesn’t work that way—habit change is tough. We all know that we fall short in some very important ways even if we’ve tried to change a million and one times before. If it were easy to change our habits, our lives would be so much easier, better, and happier. Yes, that’s true, but we also wouldn’t be as well rounded. Embrace the life you’ve lived to this point—warts and all. I’ll argue that the challenges we have in life help shape us and make us who we are. At the same time, you’re over the challenges you have—you’ve already lived that life and learned those lessons. You’re ready to experience true habit change and I’m going to give you some easy ways to make it happen throughout my habits series on IMIT. I’ve developed some strategies I believe are going to make it easier for you to change your habits. These strategies are going to be different (and I think better) from what you’ve seen before. You don’t want to learn the same old stuff you’ve learned before related to habit change by reading other books and articles. You don’t want to be told that it’s “too hard” to change deep-seated habits. Yes, it requires work and commitment, but it’s not too hard—you can successfully improve your life in every area. There are undoubtedly things that are holding you back in life that you really want to change. Whether it has to do with your life, business, health, family, finances, or anything else, there are things you could be doing better. There are things you could improve on, starting today, to live better, feel better, and be better. WHAT ARE HABITS? First, let’s talk about what habits are. Habits are those things we do every day, whether we’re conscious of them or not, that make up our actions, thoughts, and results. Habits make up the experiences we have with everything we do. I don’t mean for that to sound overwhelming. You already know what habits are, in general, or you wouldn’t be here right now trying to change them. But now we’re going to break them down so you have a deeper understanding. I believe that when you have a deeper understanding, you can more easily tackle habit change. Sometimes, your habits are things you’re not conscious of. You can have certain physical ticks or thoughts that come without your awareness, yet still shape who you are, how you act, and how you’re perceived…even your level of success. These may have initially been a choice but turned habits you don’t think about anymore. Maybe you tend not to eat breakfast in the morning, hoping so save on calories so you can slim down. You don’t think about that choice anymore. You just don’t eat breakfast, out of habit (and not eating breakfast is a poor habit, for the record). Habits can develop out of poor decision-making or false information and lead to negative consequences. For example, when you don’t eat breakfast you get so hungry during dinnertime and late at night that you eat everything in sight and gain weight and have lower energy. In the end, your habit in this breakfast-skipping scenario is doing you more harm than good, even though you set out for it to be a good thing. Part of habit change will be investigating the maladaptive habits you used to be conscious of but aren’t any longer, along with those you were never really aware of but developed anyway. The goal will be to eliminate harmful habits, adopt new strategies for other habits, and adopt new habits that will help you achieve your goals. Going back to the example, skipping breakfast and lunch was a habit you got into because you wanted to lose weight. What if you could develop the habit to eat a healthy, filling breakfast and go for a light morning jog instead? You’d be able to regulate your system and feel better with a lot more energy throughout the day. That would be a better habit for sure. It will be different and strange at first (all habit change is) but soon enough, it would just become part of your everyday routine. What if you’re in the bad habit of opening up your computer and wasting hours at a time on blogs and social media instead of working right away? This isn’t a conscious choice you’re making anymore—it’s a bad habit that you’re unaware of while it’s happening. Those hours float away as if they were mere seconds. You don’t know how or why you developed this habit of wasting time online, except to avoid work. All you know is that it’s cutting into your bottom line and/or making your boss upset. You could become aware of this poor habit and change it to a new one that would be more productive. You could get into the habit of defining the six most important tasks you could complete every day, the night before a workday. When you open your computer screen, you’ll turn right to your tasks and get things done like a machine of productivity– out of habit– instead of wasting hours online. That sounds amazing, right? You can already see how much more productive and successful this can make you. There are many different scenarios and examples I could give. If you knew these tasks would further your life or your business or your health in some way, and you did them as a habit every single day, your life would change for the better in very dramatic ways. That would be incredible, and I hope you’re ready for it. The fact is that habits are strange and tricky. Most of us know what we want to be doing and what we really should be doing. But, so many of us (most of us) have a hard time developing great new habits. They just don’t seem to stick. You’ve probably had the experience that you start off really excited about a new habit. You just know that this year, you’re going to work out on the treadmill every day. You know that this year, you’re going to eat healthy meals every day. You know that you’re going to start a successful business and just crush all your financial goals. Why doesn’t it happen? You make these resolutions and have these dreams year after year. Yet, you feel like your life is at a standstill. You feel like you’re in the same old place you were always in and that there’s no way to improve your situation… not really. After all, you’ve already resolved to take steps to change your life. You’ve already tried and failed and it’s frustrating. Maybe you bought a new treadmill or invested in a new business idea. You went at it solidly for a few days, weeks, or months but then other things got in the way. You eat a donut in the morning because you always have. You go home after work and eat dinner, filling up on as much as your plate will hold, and then some, because you always have. You watch television because you always have, and because of your full stomach you don’t have the energy to get on the treadmill. Maybe you tell yourself that instead of working out on the treadmill after dinner you’d do better by waking up earlier in the morning and doing it then… but the alarm goes off and you hit the snooze alarm again and again and when you finally drag yourself out of bed, it’s too late to start today… but tomorrow, for sure. And so it goes. What happened? You fell back into old patterns and habits. You’re definitely not alone in this, so please forgive yourself no matter how many times you’ve tried and failed. It’s so easy to fall back into the habits that have been ingrained in us– often since childhood. You’re going against the current when you try to change a habit. That’s why you need a whole new approach—an approach you’ve never seen before. Part of the problem is that you hold certain beliefs about yourself that you’re likely not even aware of. You believe that you will always be overweight, deep down. You believe that you will always struggle financially—you might even believe that you deserve to struggle financially. Be honest with yourself and you might see that this is true, even if you’ve never realized it before. You believe that you’re destined to be miserable and have low energy and be stuck in the daily grind. You don’t mean to believe these things about yourself, but you do. You have dreams that things will change, someday. You even sometimes take steps to correct the problem and make things better. You try to develop new habits– you really do. But something always pulls you back. It feels as if there’s an invisible magnet that’s always pulling you back and it’s less than fair. You’re here now, reading this, because you’re sick of it. You’re really ready to change this time. You’ve decided that in this moment you’re going to make the choice to change your life. It’s my goal to help get you to that point. I want you to be able to change and succeed and do whatever you want to do with your life. Believe me, I want that for myself as well. There are lots of things I’d like to change about myself today, even though I consider myself to be an expert in goal setting and positive habit formation. The truth is that no one is perfect and everyone struggles. The truth is that there are no real secrets—but there are methods and strategies that will get you so much closer to your ideal. You’re going to have to put the work in. You’re going to have to decide that really and truly, this is the moment when everything is going to change. Throughout my series on habit change in IMIT, I’m going to give you the tools and understanding you need to develop better habits in your life. It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to the idea of changing your habits or this is the first time you’re attempting this change. This can and will happen for you if you let it. But you need to know how to do it. I’ve made it my goal to study habit formation and how successful people really change. I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to work with many people over the years and have been able to help many change their habits and their lives for good. It’s this interaction with others and helping others see real results that keeps me going. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so desperate to change my own life, especially in the past. There were certainly times when I was down in the dumps and didn’t think I’d ever escape. There were times when I didn’t feel healthy or happy. There have been times when I’ve been really hurting financially. There have been times when I’ve had to turn to others for help because I didn’t think I could drag myself out of the hole I’d put myself in. That’s a tough place to be in. And it’s not just me… I’ve watched friends and family members dig themselves into a hole that’s tough to get out of through bad habits as well. I know that creating a habit comes easy, tearing one down is tough, and replacing a bad habit with a good one is tougher still… but it certainly can be done if you approach it the right way. Today, I’m so much happier. I’ve achieved financial freedom. I work daily on maintaining my health and happiness. I live a life that many people dream of living. This is a great position to be in. I sometimes have to pinch myself to realize that it’s real, even though I’ve worked very hard for it. You have to know that it didn’t come easy. I’ve struggled with this many times– I’m sure you want to know how I was able to succeed. It started with changing my habits. One of my proudest achievements is my online small business strategy book, called “5 Bucks a Day.” I’m an entrepreneur, and this book detailed what I did to go from being deep in debt to being financially secure by building an online business. This book has changed many lives in countries all over the world, far beyond my own. The foundation of the 5 Bucks a Day business method is about breaking projects down, focusing, changing habits, and layering success upon success (what I call “lather, rinse, repeat”). Instead of tackling huge business projects and ideas at once, the 5 Bucks a Day method has you break them down. I love this saying—“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!” By focusing on improving business in bite-sized chunks, many entrepreneurs have been able to find their success. In the book, I have people layer $5 a day in passive earnings every week, until they are earning a full time, passive income. I believe in a similar approach when it comes to changing your habits. You need to break your goals down into their smaller parts. You need to examine your habits and break them down to truly understand them. You then have to tackle your problems one by one. You’ll focus on identifying habits you have and habits you’d like to have and work to change and improve them little by little, week by week. Eventually, you’ll have changed not just one major habit but also another one by layering improved habit upon improved habit. You keep on going until you’ve changed the habits that are most important to you. Your life becomes better. Anything you want to improve on becomes better, little by little. You eat that elephant little by little until he’s gone. You’ll never eat him all at once—it’s not possible. It’s all about incremental success. I strongly believe that, whether we’re talking about business success, habit change, or anything else. I’m hoping to help you gain a deeper understanding of what habits are and which habits are holding you back. I want you to be able to define, very clearly, which habits you’d rather develop and which would contribute the most to a happier and more successful life. This is, as you can imagine, a very individual thing. You’re going to learn how to overcome bad habits and develop new habits. You’re going to do this over time. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself by tackling too much at once. By focusing on changing habits one bite at a time, you can and will succeed. I want you to realize that this isn’t something you’ll ever really be done with. This is a lifelong process. We are all always learning, changing, and growing. The things that are important to you right now might not be anywhere near as important to you 20 years from now. That’s okay– that’s a good thing. I urge you to start this process of self-discovery and improvement today. This truly could be the decision that helps you change your life. I don’t say that because it’s me who’s going to change your life—I say that because it’s you who is going to change your life and I’m extremely happy about that fact. Again, I’m helping to give you the tools and knowledge throughout IMIT so you can do it. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve tried and failed in the past, these strategies can help you succeed.

Building Relationships Via Social Media (Podcast #147)

[http://theiminsidetrack.com/members/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/building_relationships-300x150.jpg]If you’re going to be successful with social marketing, it’s very important to pay attention to the relationships you build and tend to. There’s nothing worse than the people who come onto Twitter or Facebook or any social site and then continuously plug whatever it is they’re selling. They don’t even bother to add value—it’s plug, after plug, after plug. There are others who aren’t quite that bad, but just about. They play at talking to people and connecting, but really they see it as something they half-heartedly attempt. They sort of know they have to do it but are so laser focused on getting their promotion in front of people that everyone can see right through them. The above examples are what not to do. It might be really tempting to do that… but don’t. Even though it’s so tempting to plug your stuff all the time on social media, spend that effort instead on building relationships. Those relationships will become extremely important to you and your business. You can build relationships with people in your audience. They will start to listen to what you have to say. They’ll start to seek you out and become excited about you. You can build relationships with other authorities in your niche. This is extremely important. Don’t think of these people as being competition, necessarily, think of them as being potential assets for your business. You might find that they become affiliates or Joint Venture partners of yours. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS USING SOCIAL MEDIA? Let’s talk about what it means to build relationships using social media. It’s important to think about what other people want and are going through. Put yourself in their shoes. When you’re working to build relationships with people in your audience, consider what they really need help with. If you could give them fantastic information that will really help them, what would that be? Give them that information! There’s give and take in a relationship. On your part, give more than you take. Your social media activities should be about giving. Give information, ideas, and inspiration. Answer questions people ask you. You might spend a lot of time answering people’s questions. It’s a good thing to open up to people and let people into your world a little bit. Let them know who you are as a person. Share some of your ups and downs. Let them know what you’re working on. It’s important to be a real person to the members of your audience. If you pretend to be this all-knowing, all-seeing marketer, you’re not going to have a real relationship with them. When you have a relationship with your audience, they feel like they’re an important part of your life. When it comes to other experts in your niche, you approach things in a different way. This is more of a business relationship, although you will find real friends in this crowd, too. You know that each other is there for a reason. You know that you want to leverage their assets and they know that they want to leverage your assets. I suggest you friend and follow these people. Comment on their social media posts and blog posts. Compliment them on their new releases and ideas. Jump in (when appropriate) and offer your opinion when someone in their audience needs help or has questions. Build relationships with other marketers in your niche. Just be friendly and present. Be a real person—not someone who thinks they’re above networking with others. Remember that there has to be give and take in a relationship—more give than take. HOW DO YOU PROFIT FROM THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU BUILD? With all this relationship building, you might be wondering how you cash in. I will say that it’s sometimes appropriate to give a link to something that’s selling and to talk about the projects you’re working on. Those things are part of you and your business, after all. But mostly, you’ll be having real conversations and conducting yourself as you would in a real social situation. This is social media. An amazing thing starts to happen when you build relationships via social media. People start to seek you out because they want to, not because you’re forcing a link in front of their face all the time. They’ll seek you out, find what you have to offer, join your list, and buy from you. They’ll become extremely loyal to you over other marketers because they feel they have a real relationship with you. You can link to freebie offers you’re giving away via a squeeze page and people will likely jump all over that offer. That’s part of this, too. You don’t want to only connect with people in one spot, you want to connect with them on all your social media accounts, your blogs, and your list. You profit from this because it will be easier to build your list and therefore to make sales. You’ll promote your stuff when it matters and when it’s appropriate and you’ll actually get results. You’ll get results you absolutely wouldn’t get if you just spammed your link every day. Do you see where I’m going with this? You’ll profit when you build relationships with others in your niche because they’ll be much more willing to work with you. When you have an idea for a joint ventureship or would like someone to promote a product for you, they’ll be so much more open to it if they already consider you to be a friend or at least know what you’re all about. It’s hard to get someone to work with you if they have no idea who you are or where your expertise lies. It’s hard to get someone to work with you if they have no idea what you bring to the table. If you get to know other heavy hitters in your niche, the opportunities for joint ventureship and other opportunities are fantastic. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS IN EVERYTHING YOU DO Relationships matter so much and you really can’t go wrong when you put people first in your business. Think about how you conduct yourself on social media right now. Are you doing the things we’ve talked about? If you’re just starting out using social media for business, consider these recommendations as well. It’s never too late to focus on relationships, though, no matter how long you have or haven’t been using social media for business.
