Thanks for watching the Light and Incense Podcast! We hope this episode was informative and provided a meaningful learning experience. Episode Description: In a world filled with noise, confusion, and chaos, we started this podcast to provide a space where ancient, unchanging truth shines and prayers rise. In this fourth episode of our second season, our hosts continue the "I AM" series by welcoming a very special guest, Aiden Wilson. A convert to Coptic Orthodoxy from an atheist background, Aiden shares his powerful journey of discovery and transformation. Together, they explore Christ's profound revelation in the Gospel of John: "I am the way, the truth, and the life". They discuss what it means to find purpose in Christ, the importance of spiritual discipline, and how a relationship with the saints can guide us through our own struggles. In this video, we discuss: Finding the Way: Aiden reflects on his journey from atheism through a period of confusion to finding the true path in Christ, sparked by a "message" he received through an unexpected surge of Orthodox content on social media. The Truth that Transforms: Exploring how Christ revealed Himself as the Truth to Aiden, moving him from a state of pride and depression to one of raw, pure joy and a sense of belonging within the Coptic Church. Life in Abundance: Analyzing how finding Christ gave Aiden a sense of purpose he lacked as an atheist, replacing thoughts of insignificance with the "life within" that comes through baptism and the sacraments. Friendship with the Saints: Aiden shares his deep connection with his patron saint, St. Moses the Strong, and how the lives of the saints provide a roadmap for those struggling with repeat sins and spiritual laziness. Routine and Discipline: Discussing the vital role of spiritual habits—like prayer and the Agpeya—to build the "discipline" necessary to avoid taking shortcuts in our walk with God. Healing Before Instructing: Reflecting on the need to let Christ’s truth heal and sanctify our own hearts first before we seek to speak that truth to others. Series: I AM Statements Throughout this season, we are exploring the profound "I AM" statements of Jesus. While He often spoke in humility during His earthly encounters, these statements reveal His true glory and identity as "I am who I am," showing us exactly who He is for us today. Connect With Us: We invite you to listen prayerfully with your heart and grow alongside us. Please leave your feedback and questions in the comments; we look forward to discussing them in future episodes. Glory to God forever. Amen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Light and Incense Podcast: Bringing faith, reflection, and God’s presence into daily life. Blood as Apostolic Foundation: The Era of the Martyrs Begins | Guest: Nada Tadros | The Sword and the Spirit (S3E7) – Light and Incense

Thanks for watching the Light and Incense Podcast! We hope this episode was informative and provided a meaningful learning experience. Episode Description: In this finale of our third season, "The Sword and the Spirit," our hosts and special guest Nada Tadros explore the transition from the Book of Acts to the Era of the Martyrs. They reflect on the lives and legacies of St. Peter and St. Paul, the "pillars of the church," whose blood became the foundation for Christianity's growth. From the brutal persecutions of Emperor Nero to the modern witness of the 21 Martyrs of Libya, they examine how the "witness" of the faithful continues to prove that the story of the Church has no end. In this video, we discuss: The Seed of the Church: Exploring the powerful concept that the blood of the martyrs is not an end, but a beginning that ignites the growth of the Church. Pillars of Faith: Reflecting on the final witness of St. Peter, who requested to be crucified upside down out of humility, and St. Paul, who faced the sword as a Roman citizen. The Grain of Wheat: Analyzing the "pattern of reality" in John 12:24, where death to self and the world is necessary to produce a spiritual harvest. Witness Without Words: Discussing the literal meaning of "martyr" as a witness and how the action of sacrifice acts as the greatest missionary tool, even in the modern day. The Trap of Comfort: Examining why spiritual laxity often follows ease and how trials—like the fiery furnace—are actually where true faithfulness is forged. The Unbreakable Link: Exploring Apostolic Succession and the "unbreakable link" of tradition that preserved the faith through living witnesses before the Bible was even canonized. Daily Martyrdom: Discussing how modern Christians are called to a "living martyrdom" by choosing integrity and truth in the small, uncomfortable decisions of daily life. Series: The Sword and the Spirit As we conclude our study of the Book of Acts, we see that while the biblical text ends, the movement of the Holy Spirit does not. This series reveals that we are the continuation of the story, called to be faithful stewards of the "deposit" of faith passed down from the apostles to the fathers and finally to us. Connect With Us: We invite you to listen prayerfully with your heart and grow alongside us. Please leave your feedback and questions in the comments; we look forward to discussing them in future episodes. Glory to God forever. To the Ends of the Earth: The Missionary Journeys of St. Paul | Guest: Michael Mossaad | The Sword and the Spirit (S3E5) – Light and Incense

Thanks for watching the Light and Incense Podcast! We hope this episode was informative and provided a meaningful learning experience. Episode Description: In this fifth episode of our third season, "To the Ends of the Earth," our hosts and special guest Michael Mossaad explore the dynamic events of Acts 16–20. They follow St. Paul on his second and third missionary journeys as he navigates diverse cultures, philosophies, and persecutions. From the first entry of the Gospel into Europe to the intellectual heights of Athens, they examine how the Holy Spirit redirects human plans to fulfill God’s timing and how the early Church’s mission continues to "turn the world upside down" today. In this video, we discuss: Redirection, Not Rejection: Exploring how the Holy Spirit blocked Paul from preaching in Asia to lead him to Macedonia, teaching us that mission is about God’s timing rather than just human effort. The Power of One: Reflecting on the conversion of Lydia, the first European convert, and how God often starts with individuals—like a shoemaker or a woman by the river—to eventually reach entire communities. Hymns in the Dark: Analyzing the inner peace of Paul and Silas, who sang hymns while chained in prison, and how their faithfulness led to the miraculous conversion of their jailer. The Unknown God: Discussing Paul’s brilliant approach in Athens, where he used Greek culture and philosophy to bridge the gap between their search for truth and the revelation of Christ. Faith vs. Economy: Examining the riot in Ephesus and how the Gospel is not just a change in belief, but a "theological earthquake" that challenges lifestyles, priorities, and economic structures. A Father’s Heart: Exploring Paul’s emotional farewell to the Ephesian elders, highlighting the necessity of pastoral correction and the spiritual fatherhood required to protect the Church from "savage wolves". Lessons from History: Drawing parallels between Paul's cultural engagement and the "Golden Age" of Coptic-Arabic literature, where the Church used the language of the time to explain eternal Christian truths. Series: The Book of Acts Following our exploration of Christ’s identity in the "I AM" series, we now examine how that identity is lived out through the movement of the Holy Spirit in the early church. This series reveals that the Book of Acts has no end, as the Spirit continues to work through the faithful today to "turn the world upside down". The First Council & The Shape of the Church| Guest: Michael Mossaad | The Sword and the Spirit (S3E4) – Light and Incense

Thanks for watching the Light and Incense Podcast! We hope this episode was informative and provided a meaningful learning experience.Episode Description: As the early Church transitions from a local movement to a global mission, it faces a "theological earthquake" regarding the requirements for salvation. In this fourth episode of our third season, "The First Council & The Shape of the Church," our hosts and special guest Michael Mossaad explore the pivotal events of Acts 13–15. They discuss how the Church navigated deep disagreements about identity and culture as Gentiles began to enter the fold. From the first missionary journeys to the historic Council of Jerusalem, they examine how the Holy Spirit continues to guide the Church through consensus, tradition, and the practical application of grace. In this video, we discuss:Leaving the Comfort Zone: Exploring how the Holy Spirit called the Church to move beyond its Jewish roots in Antioch to engage with the wider Greek and Roman world. The Salvation Crisis: Analyzing the debate in Acts 15 where the Church had to decide if salvation required adherence to the Mosaic Law, specifically circumcision. The Power of the Council: Examining the "conciliar" nature of the Church, where the Apostles gathered to pray and listen to the Holy Spirit rather than making unilateral decisions."It Seemed Good to the Holy Spirit and Us": Discussing how the Holy Spirit works through the collective body of Christ to provide pastoral solutions for a growing, multicultural community.Ancient Witnesses: Introducing early documents like the Didache and Didascalia that reveal the liturgical and disciplinary life of the earliest Christians.Understanding Canons and Mercy: Redefining "canons" not as rigid laws, but as "measuring sticks" meant to lead people to salvation through the wisdom of oikonomia (economy).Growth Through Conflict: Reflecting on the sharp disagreement between Paul and Barnabas and how God used human frailty to multiply the reach of the Gospel.Unity in Diversity: Celebrating the Orthodox tradition of maintaining essential dogmas for salvation while allowing for a diversity in rites and practices across different cultures.Series: The Book of Acts Following our exploration of Christ’s identity in the "I AM" series, we now examine how that identity is lived out through the movement of the Holy Spirit in the early church.
