2026 (9) Professor Francine Ducharme

This episode (2026 (8)) of 'Asthma with Experts' on World Asthma Day 2026 hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), and features a discussion with Professor Francine Ducharme, University of Montreal, Canada. She is a respiratory paediatrician, and a member of the GINA Science Committee Prof Ducharme shares her thoughts about the current problems faced by children who have asthma. She emphasises the need to take every opportunity to diagnose reversible airflow obstruction - a key feature of asthma, ideally with spirometry. The best opportunity is when a child presents with an acute exacerbation/ attack. She shared some information about the new flow charts in GINA 2026 on managing acute asthma exacerbations in primary care and the ED. 2026 (8) Discussion with Prof Guy Brusselle

This This episode (2026 (8)) of 'Asthma with Experts' on World Asthma Day 2026 is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), and features a discussion with Professor Guy Brusselle, Chairman of the GINA Board of Directors on his thoughts about asthma. Prof Brusselle shares his thoughts about the current problems faced by adults who have asthma. Key issues include i) getting the diagnosis right as early as possible, and ii) the use of a single inhaler containing an inhaled corticosteroid and a quick acting, long acting bronchodilator (formoterol) for relief of symptoms as well as maintenance therapy. In this way the inflammation caused by asthma is dealt with at the same time as relieving symptoms. 2026 (7) : Possible Primary Prevention of Asthma

This episode (2026 (7)) of 'Asthma with Experts' which is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), features a discussion with Professor Bart Lambrecht of Ghent University Belgium, about possible primary prevention of asthma. In their large Danish population based study, (https://bit.ly/3Mc9lWO [https://bit.ly/3Mc9lWO]) they concluded that “a respiratory syncitial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis hospitalization in the first 6 months of life on its own conferred a threefold increased cumulative risk of an asthma diagnosis...and the risk was doubled for those without an RSV hospitalization who were born to an asthmatic mother...or father.” Interestingly after an RSV infection the risk of subsequent asthma development in these children is increased irrespective of whether the parent(s) have asthma or allergy. Together with evidence from his research in mouse models, Prof Lambrecht shares his ideas and conclusions on possibly preventing asthma from developing in children for example through RSV immunisation in late pregnancy. 2025 (6): Allergic Asthma in adolescents and adults

2025 (5):Asthma in Pre-School Children

This episode (2025 (5)) of 'Asthma with Experts' which is hosted by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), is about diagnosis of asthma in children under 5 years old. Professor Francine Ducharme a specialist respiratory paediatrician in Montreal, Canada, shares her approach to this very important challenging diagnosis for doctors. We discuss her practical approach to refining the diagnosis in these preschool children.
