Walking Through Life Changes While Staying Focused on Christ with Brenda Yoder

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/fan_mail/new] Change can be hard. Not just the things that are different but the hard part of trusting God in the midst of it, especially when things don't seem to make sense. Maybe it's a job loss, a death in the family, a relationship shift or a painful betrayal... or maybe it's something else entirely that you're facing that makes focusing on Christ feel difficult. No matter the situation, keeping our eyes on Jesus is key.  This week I had the wonderful opportunity to have one of my mentors share on this very topic. Brenda L. Yoder, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor, author, educator, parent, and grandparent. She grew up in the Shipshewana community, where simplicity, service, and faith weren't just ideals, they were the rhythm of daily life. Those values still run through everything she does. For over 25 years, she has served as a therapist, school counselor, and teacher, learning that the most meaningful change happens not in a hurry, but in unhurried, authentic connection. Conversation Highlights: * Life happens and things change but God has a beautiful plan in it all * We need to steward what God has given us and that takes a consistent shifting and looking at our values * Recognizing that there are endings God creates, we don’t plan them, but they are for a purpose * In the spaces that are uncomfortable we have to keep returning to God for his guidance & peace * God uses change to transform us more into his image & draw us closer Connect with Brenda! Challenging Common Spiritual Lies that Rob Our Intimacy with God with Gary Thomas

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/fan_mail/new] I don't know about you but I struggle with lies and the battle in my mind a lot. There are times when the enemy is so sneaky that I don't even recognize the lie... have you been there too? This week we are breaking up and ending our unhealthy relationship with lies and we are dismantling them once and for all.  That is where our wonderful guest Gary Thomas steps in. You may have heard of him but have you heard of his newest book? It's all about dismantling lies that Christians specifically believe. He broke down a few with me during the episode and it was pure gold!!! (more on this in the weekly newsletter! Sign up below!)  Gary Thomas is a bestselling author and international speaker whose ministry strives to bring people closer to Christ and closer to others. He has sold over 2 million copies of his books, translated into over a dozen languages, and won many awards, helping establish him as a thought leader in spiritual formation, marriage and parenting. Gary served on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church in Houston for 11 years and is currently teaching at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His ministry has led him to speaking events in all 50 states and in nine different countries, including numerous television and radio programs. wisdom doesn't happen on accident, it's something that has to be pursued.  When we dismantle the lies, we can keep our eyes on Jesus more easily. This isn't easy and it's going to cause us to truly look at what we believe and what is truth but my goodness is it going to bless us and deepen our relationship with Christ in a way nothing else can! I hope you'll take on the challenge and go through Gary's book with an open heart and willing mind. This could be the shift in your life you've been waiting for.  Conversation Highlights: * Spiritual lies can be passed down and believed without us questioning them * Many Christians are spiritually reborn but not mentally transformed * Dismantling lies requires rejecting cultural values and actively pursuing biblical wisdom which Scripture values more than gold or silver * We can be addicted to comfort but God uses discomfort to build character and prepare us for ministry Connect with Gary! Parenting is Hard: You’re Not Ruining Your Kids, Parenting as a Work in Progress with Abbey Wedgeworth

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/fan_mail/new] Parenting is hard. Let's face it, we've all thought at one point or another that we have done so much harm to our kids that we have ruined them. Things seem so impossible and feel too far gone to heal, redeem or fix. But that's just not the truth friend. That is exactly why this years Mother's Day episode is with Abbey Wedgeworth. She wrote a book called Help, I'm Ruining My Kids!: A Gospel Guide for the Mom Who's Desperate for Change. Does that sound like something you need in your life too? Abbey is a Bible teacher, writer and homeschool mom of three young boys, is focus on helping mothers lift their eyes off their mistakes and anxieties and onto Christ. Abbey speaks honestly about shame, shortcomings, and the fear of "messing up" our kids. She knows from experience that fear is often compounded for homeschooling parents, but her message is simple and hope-filled, nothing is beyond redemption in motherhood.  The topic of identity, worth, redemption and so much more are covered in this episode and it's perfect for the mom, grandma, aunt that longs to not mess up the kids in their lives. I'm so thankful for Abbey and her words, they are so timely! Enjoy this episode and PLEASE share it with a mom you know needs to hear this message right now!  Conversation Highlights: * We overestimate our impact on our kids, what you do matters but it’s not all that matters * What you do does have an impact so in light of that how can you make spiritual progress? (more in episode!) * Our reference point can be ourself, our kids or Jesus, when it’s anything but Jesus we will feel despaired, unworthy & defeated * When you’re relaxed in the providence of God, the role you play feels more like an invitation than a burden Connect with Abbey! Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/fan_mail/new] Do you struggle with fear? It doesn't have to be a crippling fear, but maybe it is. I have fears that seem to have been around my entire life and I've had some that are fleeting or seasonal. But fear is something we deal with here earth side. So what do we do about it? How do we handle fear in a Biblical way? And does God just want us to manage that fear so we can function or is there a deeper healing and freedom that he has for us?  That's what today's podcast episode is all about! Faithfulness in the Unknown: Trusting God’s Plan & Embracing a Mindset of Adventure with Renee Helmkamp

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/fan_mail/new] Maybe you've heard this episode before and maybe you haven't but either way we need a reminder that we can trust God's faithfulness even in the unseen and unknown things of our life. This is a rerelease of an episode from season 5 of the podcast. It's the most listened to episode in the history of the podcast so I think it's one worth sharing again.  Renee Helmkamp is a mom, grandma, faithful follower of Jesus and so many other things. She may wear a lot of hats but in each area she humbly follow the Lord. It's not always easy but it is always worth it. The plan is to have her back on the podcast at some point and get an update on the things she shared, but for now we are going to listen back to where God had her a few years ago. He has continued to take her on new adventures but sometimes hearing about the old ones encourages our souls in fresh ways! We talk about releasing our days into God's hand and how it can lead to the adventure of a lifetime. Enjoy the journey that God has you on, and cling to him all along the way. He is faithful! God is with us in the big things of life but also the small things, there is nothing in your life that he doesn't care about. He sees what you think might be insignificant and not worth asking him about, but he cares and loves you so much.  Conversation Highlights: * Living a fully surrendered life is not easy but it’s worth it * We can make excuses as to why we can’t obey God but he will always debunk it * Our dependence on the Lord will increase as we say yes to His calling * Our feelings follow our actions, don’t wait until you feel ready to say yes to God’s calling * Embrace a mindset of adventure * Be in constant communication with the Lord, He will answer Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/1999750/support] Want to go deeper into the conversation?
