ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ soratt mahalaa panjavaa || Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla: ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕੀਏ ਸੋਈ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ jeea ja(n)tr sabh tis ke ke'ee soiee sa(n)t sahaiee || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੇ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । All beings and creatures were created by Him; He alone is the support and friend of the Saints. ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ apune sevak kee aape raakhai pooran bhiee baddaiee ||1|| ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧। He Himself preserves the honor of His servants; their glorious greatness becomes perfect. ||1|| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ paarabraham pooraa merai naal || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ (ਸਹਾਈ) ਹੈ । The Perfect Supreme Lord God is always with me. ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਭ ਰਾਖੀ ਹੋਏ ਸਰਬ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur poorai pooree sabh raakhee hoe sarab dhiaal ||1|| rahaau || ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੀ (ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। The Perfect Guru has perfectly and totally protected me, and now everyone is kind and compassionate to me. ||1||Pause|| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ anadhin naanak naam dhiaae jeea praan kaa dhaataa || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸੁਆਸ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । Night and day, Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is the Giver of the soul, and the breath of life itself. ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਪਿਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੨੨॥੫੦॥ apune dhaas kau ka(n)tt lai raakhai jiau baarik pit maataa ||2||22||50|| ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਪੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।੨੨।੫੦। He hugs His slave close in His loving embrace, like the mother and father hug their child. ||2||22||50|| Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Sorath - 621

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥ salok mahalaa panjavaa || Shalok, Fifth Mehla: ਭੀੜਹੁ ਮੋਕਲਾਈ ਕੀਤੀਅਨੁ ਸਭ ਰਖੇ ਕੁਟੰਬੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ bheeRahu mokalaiee keeteean sabh rakhe kuTa(n)bai naal || (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਪ ਸੰਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, He has widened the narrow path for me, and preserved my integrity, along with that of my family. ਕਾਰਜ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਦਾ ਸਭਾਲਿ ॥ kaaraj aap savaarian so prabh sadhaa sabhaal || ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । He Himself has arranged and resolved my affairs. I dwell upon that God forever. ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇਦਾ ਲਹੁੜੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਪਾਲਿ ॥ prabh maat pitaa ka(n)tt laidhaa lahuRe baalak paal || ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਅੰਞਾਣੇ ਬਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਗਲ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ । God is my mother and father; He hugs me close in His embrace, and cherishes me, like His tiny baby. ਦਇਆਲ ਹੋਏ ਸਭ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥ dhiaal hoe sabh jeea ja(n)tr har naanak nadhar nihaal ||1|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵ ਦਿਆਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧। All beings and creatures have become kind and compassionate to me. O Nanak, the Lord has blessed me with His Glance of Grace. ||1|| ਮਃ ੫ ॥ mahalaa panjavaa || Fifth Mehla: ਵਿਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਖ ॥ vin tudh hor j ma(n)ganaa sir dhukhaa kai dhukh || ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹੇੜਨੇ ਹਨ; To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries. ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ॥ dheh naam sa(n)tokheeaa autarai man kee bhukh || (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ ਤਾਂ ਜੁ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਏ । Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied. ਗੁਰਿ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਨੁਖ ॥੨॥ gur van tin hariaa keetiaa naanak kiaa manukh ||2|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਤੇ (ਜੰਗਲ ਦਾ ਸੁੱਕਾ) ਘਾਹ ਹਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ? ।੨। The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. O Nanak, is it any wonder that He blesses human beings as well? ||2|| ਪਉੜੀ ॥ pauRee || Pauree: ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥ so aaisaa dhaataar manahu na veesarai || ਅਜੇਹਾ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, Such is that Great Giver; may I never forget Him from my mind. ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾ ਸਰੈ ॥ ghaRee na muhat chasaa tis bin naa sarai || (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਘੜੀ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਪਲ ਆਦਿਕ (ਥੋੜਾ ਭੀ ਸਮਾ) ਸੌਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦਾ । I cannot survive without Him, for an instant, for a moment, for a second. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੁਕਿ ਕਰੈ ॥ a(n)tar baahar sa(n)g kiaa ko luk karai || ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਅੰਦਰ (ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ (ਚੁਗਿਰਦੇ ਭੀ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਲੁਕਾ-ਛਿਪਾ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ । Inwardly and outwardly, He is with us; how can we hide anything from Him? ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥ jis pat rakhai aap so bhavajal tarai || ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । One whose honor He Himself has preserved, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean. ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥ bhagat giaanee tapaa jis kirapaa karai || ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਤਪੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । He alone is a devotee, a spiritual teacher, and a disciplined pratictioner of meditation, whom the Lord has so blessed. ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥ so pooraa paradhaan jis no bal dharai || ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਤਾਕਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । He alone is perfect and renowned as supreme, whom the Lord has blessed with His power. ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ॥ jiseh jaraae aap soiee ajar jarai || He alone endures the unendurable, whom the Lord inspires to endure it. ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥ tis hee miliaa sach ma(n)tr gur man dharai ||3|| And he alone meets the True Lord, within whose mind the Guru's Mantra is implanted. ||3|| Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Raamkalee - 957,958

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ bilaaval mahalaa panjavaa || Bilaaval, Fifth Mehla: ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ jiau bhaavai tiau moh pratipaal || ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ, ਤਿਵੇਂ (ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰ । If it pleases You, then cherish me. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ ਪਿਤਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ paarabraham paramesar satigur ham baarik tum(h) pitaa kirapaal ||1|| rahaau || ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ! ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ! ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੁਸੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੋ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। O Supreme Lord God, Transcendent Lord, O True Guru, I am Your child, and You are my Merciful Father. ||1||Pause|| ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹਰੀ ਘਾਲ ॥ moh niragun gun naahee koiee pahuch na saakau tum(h)ree ghaal || ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ (ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ) । I am worthless; I have no virtues at all. I cannot understand Your actions. ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਮਾਲ ॥੧॥ tumaree gat mit tum hee jaanahu jeeau pi(n)dd sabh tumaro maal ||1|| ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ—ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ । (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ।੧। You alone know Your state and extent. My soul, body and property are all Yours. ||1|| ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਨਬੋਲਤ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਹਾਲ ॥ a(n)tarajaamee purakh suaamee anabolat hee jaanahu haal || ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਮਾਲਕ! ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਬੋਲਣ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਹਾਲ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Primal Lord and Master; You know even what is unspoken. ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥੫॥੧੨੧॥ tan man seetal hoi hamaaro naanak prabh jeeau nadhar nihaal ||2||5||121|| ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਲ ਤੱਕ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ।੨।੫।੧੨੧। My body and mind are cooled and soothed, O Nanak, by God's Glance of Grace. ||2||5||121|| Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Bilaaval - 828

ਆਸਾ ॥ aasaa || Aasaa: ਬਾਰਹ ਬਰਸ ਬਾਲਪਨ ਬੀਤੇ ਬੀਸ ਬਰਸ ਕਛੁ ਤਪੁ ਨ ਕੀਓ ॥ baareh baras baalapan beete bees baras kachh tap na keeo || (ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ) ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਲ ਅੰਞਾਣਪੁਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਘ ਗਏ, (ਹੋਰ) ਵੀਹ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ (ਲੰਘ ਗਏ, ਭਾਵ, ਤੀਹ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਟੱਪ ਗਿਆ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਤਪ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ; Twelve years pass in childhood, and for another twenty years, he does not practice self-discipline and austerity. ਤੀਸ ਬਰਸ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਵ ਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਓ ॥੧॥ tees baras kachh dhev na poojaa fir pachhutaanaa biradh bhio ||1|| ਤੀਹ ਸਾਲ (ਹੋਰ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ, ਉਮਰ ਸੱਠ ਤੋਂ ਟੱਪ ਗਈ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਭਜਨ-ਬੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਹੁਣ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਣ ਲੱਗਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੧। For another thirty years, he does not worship God in any way, and then, when he is old, he repents and regrets. ||1|| ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਓ ॥ meree meree karate janam gio || ‘ਮਮਤਾ’ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦੀ) ਉਮਰ ਬੀਤ ਗਈ, His life wastes away as he cries out, ""Mine, mine!"" ਸਾਇਰੁ ਸੋਖਿ ਭੁਜੰ ਬਲਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sair sokh bhuja(n) balio ||1|| rahaau || ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਸੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ, ਤੇ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ (ਭੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। The pool of his power has dried up. ||1||Pause|| ਸੂਕੇ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਪਾਲਿ ਬੰਧਾਵੈ ਲੂਣੈ ਖੇਤਿ ਹਥ ਵਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ॥ sooke saravar paal ba(n)dhaavai loonai khet hath vaar karai || (ਹੁਣ ਬੁਢੇਪਾ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਆਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਇਉਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਟ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਤਲਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਏ), ਅਤੇ ਕੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਖੇਤ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਵਾੜ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । He makes a dam around the dried-up pool, and with his hands, he makes a fence around the harvested field. ਆਇਓ ਚੋਰੁ ਤੁਰੰਤਹ ਲੇ ਗਇਓ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਖਤ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਫਿਰੈ ॥੨॥ aaio chor tura(n)teh le gio meree raakhat mugadh firai ||2|| ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ (ਜਦੋਂ ਜਮ ਰੂਪ) ਚੋਰ (ਭਾਵ, ਚੁਪ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੀ ਜਮ) ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ) ਲੈ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨। When the thief of Death comes, he quickly carries away what the fool had tried to preserve as his own. ||2|| ਚਰਨ ਸੀਸੁ ਕਰ ਕੰਪਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਨੈਨੀ ਨੀਰੁ ਅਸਾਰ ਬਹੈ ॥ charan sees kar ka(n)pan laage nainee neer asaar bahai || ਪੈਰ, ਸਿਰ, ਹੱਥ ਕੰਬਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਪ-ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਗੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, His feet and head and hands begin to tremble, and the tears flow copiously from his eyes. ਜਿਹਵਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਸੁਧੁ ਨਹੀ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਤਬ ਰੇ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਰੈ ॥੩॥ jihavaa bachan sudh nahee nikasai tab re dharam kee aas karai ||3|| ਜੀਭ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਫ਼ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ । ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! (ਕੀ) ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੂੰ ਧਰਮ ਕਮਾਣ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ।੩। His tongue has not spoken the correct words, but now, he hopes to practice religion! ||3|| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਓ ॥ har jeeau kirapaa karai liv laavai laahaa har har naam leeo || ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ । If the Dear Lord shows His Mercy, one enshrines love for Him, and obtains the Profit of the Lord's Name. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਅੰਤੇ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲਿਓ ॥੪॥ gur parasaadhee har dhan paio a(n)te chaladhiaa naal chalio ||4|| ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ) ਇਹ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ।੪। By Guru's Grace, he receives the wealth of the Lord's Name, which alone shall go with him, when he departs in the end. ||4|| ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਅਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਛੂਐ ਲੈ ਨ ਗਇਓ ॥ kahat kabeer sunahu re sa(n)tahu an dhan kachhooaai lai na gio || ਕਬੀਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, (ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਭੀ ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ, Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints - he shall not take any other wealth with him. ਆਈ ਤਲਬ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ॥੫॥੨॥੧੫॥ aaiee talab gopaal rai kee maiaa ma(n)dhar chhodd chalio ||5||2||15|| ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੱਦਾ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੌਲਤ ਤੇ ਘਰ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ) ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੫।੨।੧੫। When the summons comes from the King, the Lord of the Universe, the mortal departs, leaving behind his wealth and mansions. ||5||2||15|| Bhagat Kabeer Ji in Raag Aasaa - 479

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ goojaree mahalaa pehilaa || Goojaree, First Mehla: ਨਾਭਿ ਕਮਲ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਉਪਜੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ naabh kamal te brahamaa aupaje bedh paReh mukh ka(n)tt savaar || (ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਥਾ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ) ਵੇਦ (ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ) ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਗਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਸੁਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਿੱਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੀ ਧੁੰਨੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੌਲ ਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਜੰਮਿਆ From the lotus of Vishnu's navel, Brahma was born; He chanted the Vedas with a melodious voice. ਤਾ ਕੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਣਾ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਬਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ taa ko a(n)t na jaiee lakhanaa aavat jaat rahai gubaar ||1|| (ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਨਮ-ਦਾਤੇ ਦੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਲੱਭਣ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਪਿਆ, ਕਈ ਜੁਗ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਿਆ ।੧। He could not find the Lord's limits, and he remained in the darkness of coming and going. ||1|| ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥ preetam kiau bisareh mere praan adhaar || ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲ । Why should I forget my Beloved? He is the support of my very breath of life. ਜਾ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jaa kee bhagat kareh jan poore mun jan seveh gur veechaar ||1|| rahaau || ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੂਝ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। The perfect beings perform devotional worship to Him. The silent sages serve Him through the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause|| ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ rav sas dheepak jaa ke tirabhavan ekaa jot muraar || ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਇਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਨੋ ਨਿਕੇ ਜਿਹੇ) ਦੀਵੇ (ਹੀ) ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ । His lamps are the sun and the moon; the One Light of the Destroyer of ego fills the three worlds. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ guramukh hoi su ahinis niramal manamukh rain a(n)dhaar ||2|| ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ (ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦੇ) ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨। One who becomes Gurmukh remains immaculately pure, day and night, while the self-willed manmukh is enveloped by the darkness of night. ||2|| ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਝਗਰਾ ਦੁਹੁ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਿਆ ਹੇਰੈ ॥ sidh samaadh kareh nit jhagaraa dhuh lochan kiaa herai || ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜੋਗੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਉੱਦਮ ਦੀ ਟੇਕ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ) ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਟੇਕ ਰੱਖੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ । The Siddhas in Samaadhi are continually in conflict; what can they see with their two eyes? ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਧੁਨਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਝਗਰੁ ਨਿਬੇਰੈ ॥੩॥ a(n)tar jot sabadh dhun jaagai satigur jhagar niberai ||3|| (ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਝਗੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੁਕਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੂਪ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩। One who has the Divine Light within his heart, and is awakened to the melody of the Word of the Shabad - the True Guru settles his conflicts. ||3|| ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ sur nar naath bea(n)t ajonee saachai mahal apaaraa || ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਹੇ ਜੂਨ-ਰਹਿਤ! ਤੇ ਅਟੱਲ ਮਹਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! O Lord of angels and men, infinite and unborn, Your True Mansion is incomparable. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ naanak sahaj mile jagajeevan nadhar karahu nisataaraa ||4||2|| ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ!
