Acerca de Fifty Is A MindF*ck

What happens when you hit 50 and you realize that no one's really talking about the things that we're actually going through?Welcome to 50s of Mindfuck. The good, the bad, the hairy, the ugly, and the beautiful. Let's go. When I started this social media journey at 50, there were really no people my age showing up online. At least not talking about the real stuff, at the same time, I was going through one of the hardest seasons of my life, which was losing my dad. I needed somewhere to put that grief and creativity, the grief, the confusion, the identity shift, the questions that just didn't have clean answers anywhere I was searching. I couldn't even Google these things back then. So I started talking. This show talks about everything that comes with this stage of life, the parts we don't always say out loud, aging, loss, relationships, reinvention, and even figuring out who you are when the roles you've carried start to change. I'm Wendy Ortiz. I've built a life, a business, a family,, and now I'm in the phase of asking deeper questions. I know I'm not the only one. That's the beauty of this. Each week, we have a real honest conversation with the kind of people that make you feel seen and maybe even a little uncomfortable, but also not alone. If you're over 50 or even just starting to feel that shift, this is for you because this phase, you guys, it's not just about getting older, it's about finally speaking our truth.

Think It's Hard Being Over 50? Imagine Being Gay, Widowed...And Starting Over

My friend Johnny said to me once… ‘If you think it’s hard to be over 50, try being gay and over 50. It’s brutal.’” In this deeply honest episode, Johnny Pfeiffer opens up about aging, identity, loss, body image, and what it felt like to suddenly re-enter the dating world after losing his longtime partner to cancer. Johnny hadn’t dated since he was 19 years old. After becoming widowed, he found himself navigating grief while also confronting the intense pressure surrounding youth, appearance, desirability, and relevance inside the gay community — and honestly, in society as a whole. From 360 lipo and hair transplants to emotional healing and self-discovery, Johnny shares how the journey unexpectedly came full circle… realizing that after all the rebuilding, reinventing, and trying to become “better,” he was actually pretty great exactly as he was all along. This conversation is raw, funny, vulnerable, uncomfortable, and incredibly human. Whether you’re gay, straight, partnered, divorced, widowed, or simply trying to figure out who you are in this chapter of life — this episode will probably hit somewhere deep. #50IsAMindfuck #Midlife #GayOver50 #Widower #SelfAcceptance

What Happens When Healing Offends People

Erica never expected to become a widow. One day she was living the life she knew — and the next, she was forced into a version of herself she never asked for: grieving, untethered, and trying to figure out who she was without the life and love she thought she’d have much longer. In this episode of **50 Is a Mindf*ck**, Erica shares what it means to be a “surprise widow” — the shock of sudden loss, the loneliness that follows, and the complicated, messy reality of healing. But healing didn’t look like sitting still. It looked like solo travel. Saying yes to the unknown. Learning how to be alone. Being forced to find herself again — not as someone’s wife, not as someone’s partner, but as herself. And then, just six months later, life did what life does: it surprised her again. She met someone. What followed was love, guilt, judgment, and heartbreaking family fallout as her daughters struggled to accept that her moving forward didn’t mean forgetting. This is a conversation about grief, healing, reinvention, love after loss, and the brutal truth that sometimes rebuilding your life means losing people you thought would walk beside you.
