Don't Fall For The Trap

If there is one thing I have learned through parenting neurodivergent children, it is that others' opinion of you has everything to do with their opinion of themselves and little to do with you.  If you want to support a mom who is worried about comparison and judgment, here are some ways you can help: 1. **Listen without judgment**: Let her express her feelings without feeling judged. Create a safe space where she can share her concerns openly. 2. **Offer reassurance**: Remind her of her strengths and the unique qualities that make her a wonderful mom. Reinforce positive affirmations about her parenting abilities. 3. **Encourage self-compassion**: Help her practice self-compassion by reminding her that it's okay to make mistakes and that she's doing the best she can. 4. **Provide perspective**: Help her understand that social media often presents a curated version of reality and that many other moms likely experience similar feelings of comparison and judgment. 5. **Challenge negative self-talk**: Encourage her to challenge negative thoughts and beliefs about herself as a mom. Help her reframe these thoughts in a more positive and realistic light. 6. **Share your own experiences**: Share your own experiences of feeling judged or comparing yourself to others as a mom. Let her know that she's not alone in her struggles. 7. **Promote self-care**: Encourage her to prioritize self-care activities that help boost her confidence and self-esteem. This could include activities like exercise, journaling, or spending time with supportive friends. 8. **Offer practical support**: Help her with practical tasks or childcare responsibilities to alleviate some of her stress and anxiety. Sometimes, having someone lend a helping hand can make all the difference. 9. **Focus on gratitude**: Encourage her to focus on the positive aspects of her life and motherhood. Practicing gratitude can help shift her perspective away from comparison and judgment. 10. **Recommend professional support**: If her worries about comparison and judgment are significantly impacting her well-being, suggest seeking support from a therapist or counselor who can provide coping strategies and emotional support. Remember to approach the situation with empathy and understanding, and let her know that you're there for her every step of the way. Your support can make a big difference in helping her navigate these challenging feelings.

Wait, You sleep?

To all my Sleep Deprived Momma's out there, I see you!!  Isaiah 40:29-31 (NIV): "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Helping a sleep-deprived mom can make a significant difference in her well-being and ability to cope with the demands of parenting. Here are some ways you can offer support: 1. **Offer to babysit**: Give her some time to rest by offering to watch her children for a few hours. This will allow her to catch up on sleep or simply have some time to relax and recharge. 2. **Provide meals**: Prepare meals or snacks for her and her family, or offer to pick up groceries or takeout. Cooking can be challenging when you're exhausted, so having meals taken care of can be a huge relief. 3. **Help with household chores**: Offer to help with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, or errands. Keeping up with chores can be overwhelming when you're sleep-deprived, so lending a hand can be greatly appreciated. 4. **Listen and offer emotional support**: Sometimes all she needs is someone to listen to her and offer a sympathetic ear. Let her know that you're there for her and validate her feelings. 5. **Encourage self-care**: Remind her of the importance of self-care and encourage her to prioritize her own well-being. Offer to watch the kids while she takes a relaxing bath, goes for a walk, or engages in activities she enjoys. 6. **Provide resources**: Offer information on sleep training techniques or parenting resources that may help her improve her child's sleep patterns and alleviate some of her sleep deprivation. 7. **Be understanding and non-judgmental**: Understand that she may be more irritable or emotional due to lack of sleep, and be patient and compassionate with her. Avoid offering unsolicited advice or criticism. 8. **Offer practical solutions**: If possible, offer practical solutions to help improve her sleep, such as taking turns with nighttime feedings or offering tips for establishing a bedtime routine for her child. 9. **Check in regularly**: Keep in touch with her regularly to see how she's doing and offer ongoing support. Knowing that someone cares can make a world of difference. 10. **Encourage professional help if needed**: If her sleep deprivation is severe or prolonged, encourage her to seek help from a healthcare professional. Postpartum depression and other sleep-related disorders may require professional intervention. Remember to be flexible and understanding of her needs, as every mom's situation is different. Your support and kindness can make a world of difference to a sleep-deprived mom.
