episode Make the Old Testament Great Again artwork

Make the Old Testament Great Again

In any evangelical church today, congregations are much more likely to hear a sermon based on the New Testament rather than the Old Testament. Perhaps the pastor will allude to or reference the Old Testament, but the primary text will most likely be from the New. Congregations do not demonstrate a general familiarity with notable Old Testament stories, such as young men calling out to Elijah "Go up thou bald head!" or Daniel's dream of a stone that grew into a mountain and filled the whole earth. Our Daily Bread, a classic, evangelical devotional publication, has produced a booklet: "Five Reasons to Love the Old Testament." [https://xvetrm.files.cmp.optimizely.com/download/assets/five-reasons-to-love-the-old-testament.pdf/8446b8e0037311f1b25cd6a89a465731] That title alone indicates the dearth in this area within the Christian church today. It's an odd phenomenon, considering that the Old Testament is over three times the length of the New, containing plenteous thrilling accounts of God's power, setting the foundation for God's redemption plan for the world, teaching God's character through examples, demonstrating both His judgment and His mercy. While the Old Testament covers thousands of years of history, the New Testament spans only decades. This is not only an odd phenomenon, but it also presents a major problem for teaching the historicity of the Old Testament, as we strive to do on this podcast. People are unlikely to care about the historicity of something if they don't know the content of it in the first place, or why that content matters. Why and how did the major emphasis in churches shift to the New Testament? What problems arise as a result of this imbalance? How can this be corrected? Join us for this discussion. episode Is the Law of Moses Just a Copy of Older Law Codes? artwork

Is the Law of Moses Just a Copy of Older Law Codes?

[Season 4, Episode 9] A good way to undermine biblical authority and divine authorship is to demonstrate that the biblical writings seem to be mimicking earlier historical ideas and events. A well-known example is the historically revered Law of Moses. Because there are at least five ancient law codes that pre-date the traditional time of Moses, all bearing some similarities to the Mosaic Law, many people have claimed that the Law of Moses was copying earlier law codes. Yet, Christians have historically believed that when God gave the Law to Moses on Mt. Sinai, something new and special was happening. For example, Moses (holding the Ten Commandments) is the central figure on the east pediment of the United States Supreme Court building. He is flanked by other ancient law givers. Was the Mosaic Law borrowing from the law codes of other ancient peoples? Dr. Aardsma never set out to research this topic specifically. However, the discovery of the missing millenium settles this question, as it does many, many others. Truth is like that; the ripple effects of enlightenment seem to never end. Knowing when Moses actually lived (1,000 years earlier than traditionally thought) clearly demonstrates that when God gave Moses the Law on Mt. Sinai, something special and unique was indeed happening. Moses lived during the Exodus of 2450 BC. We have no record of ancient law codes that predate this time. Nothing Fails Like Bible History?? Challenging YouTuber "Holy Koolaid"

[Season 4, Episode 8] For over three and a half years, we've been instructing you about biblical historicity and chronology, from many angles. Today we want to show you just how effective all this knowledge is in the "real world." The YouTube channel "Holy Koolaid" gleefully wreaks havoc with problematic issues facing Old Testament historicity. It was created by Thomas Westbrook (missionary kid turned evangelistic scoffer) whose channel boasts 391K subscribers. His popular series "Nothing Fails Like Bible History" sets out to skillfully and swiftly debunk the faith of as many Christians as possible. On this episode, we set out to correct the claims put forth by Thomas Westbrook, demonstrating how quickly his house of cards tumbles once a few basic corrections are made and a few key things are properly understood. What a marvelous application of the data-rich apologetic that we present. It works: real science, real Bible, real history, real world. We address several of Westbrook's videos from his series "Nothing Fails Like Bible History." Travel along with us and put your own knowledge to use as we think through how to answer some of the accusations of Holy Koolaid against the Bible and Bible-believers. The truth is, in the end, nothing SUCCEEDS like Bible history. Corruption in Modern Science (Why We Are Independent)

[Season 4, Episode 7] For new ideas to move forward, a society must have free speech. In addition, societies today have systems for new ideas (scientific research) to be presented and evaluated. But what happens when those well-established systems become corrupted—when they actually stand in the way of truth and advancement? This is now happening in our country's academic institutions, and many are completely unaware. "Publish or perish" and peer review have become roadblocks to truth and progress. Some scientists have seen their lives and reputations destroyed through the corrupted system. Others learn to jump through the hoops and work the system to accomplish their personal career goals. Yet others decide to leave the mainstream altogether in order to avoid a career spent trying to satisfy the system. Being outside the mainstream (and therefore self-published) has its own set of problems, but it does allow meaningful research to take place and the unadulterated, undiluted results to be published, albeit to a limited audience. And that is exactly where we find ourselves here at The Biblical Chronologist. Listen in to learn about the major "establishment" problems facing scientists today, how the winds of change are beginning to blow, and why The Biblical Chronologist has a 31-year-history of doing research and publication independently. episode "Noah's Flood Revisited" by Hugh Ross - Why it Fails artwork

"Noah's Flood Revisited" by Hugh Ross - Why it Fails

Last year, Hugh Ross (Reasons to Believe [https://reasons.org/]) replied to a comment we left on X (formerly Twitter). Our comment asked if he had seen some aspects of Dr. Aardsma's work. Ross replied, "I have just completed a book on Noah's Flood and have responded to Aardsma's claims." The book Ross referenced became available in October. This month we critique Noah's Flood Revisited (new depths of insight from science and Scripture). We discuss several aspects of this new book by an old-earth creationist, pointing out where it falls critically short—false fronts, fuzzy facts, failing to follow through, and an ultimate fatal flaw. This is important because, as Christians, we must be actively advancing the cause of truth, not just giving some reasons to hold to our faith. We must stop treading water in Christian apologetics, and begin to take ground with data, scientific investigation, research results, and specific dates that show these events in real-world history.
