02. Returning to the cage to find a better way out, with Jeanette LeBlanc.

There is a phenomenon that occurs when deep healing is afoot: as we begin to expose our deep wounds to the air and get relief from what has felt impossibly heavy, there is beauty and space that opens up in our hearts and lives -- but right alongside that, comes grief. It shows up in unexpected ways and with unpredictable timing. Somatic healing seems to ask that we learn how to grieve well. I sat down with Jeanette LeBlanc, author of, "You Are Not Too Much: Love Notes on Heartache, Redemption & Reclamation." [https://amzn.to/3y00gFf] Jeanette is one of my dearest friends, and in this episode, we talk about how when we have the capacity feel and acknowledge the wisdom of grief, it can open up other pathways to levity and pleasure. We also talk cycles of healing, and how important it is to notice what's not present as much as we notice what is. Also included: attachment theory and love languages. Mentioned in this episode: + Jeanette's piece, "To Love Is To Come Into Intimacy With Grief." [https://jeanetteleblanc.substack.com/p/to-love-is-to-come-into-intimacy] + Rainer Maria Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet [https://amzn.to/39VAr1h] and On Love and Other Difficulties [https://amzn.to/3byyesK] + Rumi's poem, "There Is A Field" [https://amzn.to/3btb8E1] + Martin Luther King, Jr., "Strength to Love" [https://amzn.to/3OuKFo9] Want to connect? 01. What is a trauma-informed sacred relationship?

We're beginning this conversation -- and the first episode of the podcast -- the way I would if I were sitting down with a new client, answering the question, "What are we really talking about here?" Unscripted, off the cuff, human to human. We're talking about the realm of romantic relationship and intimacy as a spiritual practice. We're building a bridge between the sacredness of intimate relationship and the legit trauma that keeps partners from being able to connect and co-emerge as two sovereign, deeply responsible lovers with shared and reciprocal capacity. We're talking about what capacity really means in the context of the body and heart, and why we need to keep an eye on codependent default mode when creating a relationship. We're also asking (and answering) the question: What makes the work of relating sacred? And how do we work with triggers as a portal to devotional love? In this episode, I also mention the work of Thomas Huble and John Gottman. Find the show notes here [https://hellohealing.net/thelovingkind01/].
