Descripción

Abigail’s story is one of deep contradiction: anger and grief, motherhood and loss. When Abigail’s mother died unexpectedly during her pregnancy, their relationship was already complicated. Years of on-and-off estrangement, unresolved conflict, and longing for a different kind of mother left her grieving not just the woman she lost—but the one she never had. In the weeks after her mother’s death, Abigail navigated a baby shower without her, comments from others that missed the mark, and the quiet, confusing relief that came with the end of a painful dynamic. Then her daughter was born—and joy collided with grief in ways she couldn’t have anticipated. In this episode, Abigail shares what it means to grieve a mother you had a complicated relationship with, becoming a mother while questioning your own childhood, navigating postpartum while carrying unresolved loss and searching for understanding when even you don’t understand your grief.  Now a core member of The Motherless Mothers team and the voice behind much of our Instagram presence, Abigail also shares how community, storytelling, and validation helped her begin to make sense of the impossible. This conversation is for anyone whose grief doesn’t fit neatly into a box—and who is learning, slowly, how to live alongside it. Ep57: Before I became a mother, I lost mine: Sophie’s story.

Sophie lost her mother as a teenager—a loss that shaped not just her grief but the woman, mother, and leader she would become. Now a mother of two young sons, Sophie reflects on what it means to grow up without a mother while raising children of her own and how that early loss continues to echo through everyday moments of motherhood. In this episode, we explore losing your mother during your formative years, how grief evolves from adolescence into adulthood, parenting without a maternal reference point, the ongoing impact of mother loss across life stages, and building something meaningful because of what you’ve lost Sophie isn’t just a community member; she helps shape The Motherless Mothers charity into what it is becoming today. Sophie supports the charity behind the scenes as a trustee and was instrumental in bringing the TMM community from online into real life—even co-hosting our very first London supper club and helping create spaces where women can connect face-to-face in their grief. This is a conversation about legacy—not just what we lose, but what we go on to build. Ep55: The Short Goodbye: Lindsay’s Story

In February 2022, everything changed in a matter of thirty-five days. Our guest today joins us to discuss the reality of a pancreatic cancer diagnosis that left no room for long goodbyes. While her daughter was just two and a half, she was forced to navigate the sharp end of grief and the constant demands of early motherhood at the same time. Today, we talk about what happens when you don't get a "heads up," how motherhood feels when it’s interrupted by sudden loss, and the different ways we all find ourselves standing in the "motherless" space. Ep54: Co-Founder Catch Up: Adina and Lou’s Spill the TMM Tea

In this episode, TMM co-founders Lou and Adina come together to reflect and share what’s going on behind the scenes at The Motherless Mothers. Although their work now spans different spaces - Lou in workplace research, marketing and PR, and Adina in NHS research, group therapy and TMM’s counselling and antenatal support offerings, their shared mission remains the same: to make motherhood for women without a mum feel visible and understood. They talk open about what they’re learning from their work, the gaps they continue to see in systems designed to support women and why community support is more vital than ever.  Optional to include: The conversation also opens up a wider discussion about fundraising - what it enables, why it matters and how collective support helps to ensure that no woman has to do this alone. Whether you’re a part of this community, a supporter or someone curious to understand this often invisible grief, plug in and listen in. We’re excited to chat!  Love, Adina & Lou Find out more about TMM here [www.themotherlessmothers.com].

Ep53: Six Years In: Megan’s Story

What do you do when your world ends and begins in the same breath? This week, Adina sits down with Megan, who lost her mother just six weeks before discovering she was pregnant with her first child. Megan opens up about the raw, often "taboo" side of grief: the stinging jealousy of seeing siblings’ children with their grandmother, the crushing isolation of local playgroups, and the "charity case" looks she wishes she could escape. Join us for a deeply honest conversation on surviving the earliest days of motherhood while navigating the heaviest of losses.
