Ep. 28: Malice Chapters 21-40

Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2154812/open_sms] Welcome back to another exciting episode of The Reading Rainstorm! Join hosts Kevin Wolf, Thomas Wolf, and Tim Sanders as we dive deep into chapters 21-40 of "Malice" by John Gwynne.  In this episode, we kick things off with our usual segment, "What Are We Drinking?", where we try out some new and interesting beverages. From mango peach tea to sparkling lemon lime, we share our thoughts and reactions while having a bit of fun. As we delve into the chapters, we discuss the intricacies of the plot and character developments. We debate the idea of the "chosen one" trope and how it’s portrayed in the story, drawing comparisons to other epic fantasies like "Wheel of Time" and "Dune". Corbin’s journey and growth take center stage as we analyze his actions and the unfolding events around him. We also touch on some poignant moments, like Corbin’s interactions with his father and his evolving combat skills. The discussion takes some interesting tangents, including the hypothetical scenario of having a big cat as a companion instead of the classic direwolf. Towards the end, we share some recommendations outside the fantasy genre, such as the science fiction series "The Three-Body Problem". As always, we wrap up with updates about our website and where you can find more content from The Reading Rainstorm. Thank you for joining us on the journey. https://www.thereadingrainstorm.com

Our discussion focuses on the intriguing character of Gar, speculating on his hidden strengths and mysterious actions. We analyze how Gar knew to find Corbin in the woods, his impressive physical abilities, and the significance of his injuries, drawing parallels to well-known fantasy tropes and characters. We also explore the unfolding plot, particularly the impending God War, and make predictions about which characters might fall first in battle. McQueen and Castiel's potential fates are debated, with a consensus leaning towards McQueen being the first to face the conflict head-on. Additionally, we reflect on Corbin's visions and their implications for the characters' decisions in the story. Our segment, Roll for Inspiration, adds a fun twist as we roll the dice to determine Aquilis's charisma and his ability to rally support for the impending battle. This sparks further discussion on whether his efforts will be timely or too late.
