Doing less reps on big compound movements, such squats and deadlifts is going to get better results than doing high reps. Not because high reps are bad but because you will fail on maintaining a good position far before you ever reach failure. If you are in survival mode during a lift you are not getting what you need out of it as you will always default to just getting it done.
