Beating the Odds: First Generation College Graduate

According to Forbes, Alabama ranks 19th in the U.S. for first-generation college students (39%). Students whose parents did not attend college are more likely to come from racial minority backgrounds, identify as female, have dependents, and many other reasons. In the final episode of Season 2 of The Problem with Poverty Podcast, we are joined by Brandi Powers, a teacher at our Vivian Conatser-Turner Early Learning Center. Brandi recently received her Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies with a Concentration in Early Childhood from Athens State University. During the discussion, Brandi talks over her journey of becoming a first generation college graduate out of her family. Brandi is amazing example of just because you come from nothing, doesn't mean you can't make something of yourself and change your future for the better. That's a wrap for Season 2! Be sure to catch up on past episodes of The Problem with Poverty Podcast!
