#01 MMP - Micro Mastery Podcast - A Podcast Exploring Insight into Precision Micro Machining and Design
The Micro Mastery Podcast, moderated by Tara Baklund with hosts Jon Baklund and Alex Madsen.
Together, they are the M5 Micro crew, representing their company, Minnesota Micro Molding, Machining, and Manufacturing (M5). The podcast focuses on their online school, which aims to educate individuals on the intricacies of micro-machining, including practical applications, theoretical concepts, and industry insights gathered over decades of experience.
The crew further emphasizes the importance of thoughtful design in their trade, pointing out issues they often see in designs that are difficult to manufacture despite looking plausible on computer models. A significant component of their online school involves teaching GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), a system created by Honeywell to improve part compatibility and assembly in manufacturing.
They also discuss their monthly class, where each month a new part is presented for students to build, leading to an eventual assembly project. Free downloadable models and prints are offered at the start of each month, with a paid course granting access to the build video and live Q&A sessions, every month.
In the podcast, they discuss their personal backgrounds, including how they started in the industry, and their passion for preserving and transferring machining skills to the next generation. They believe that formal trade cannot go far enough in their knowledge and encourage dynamic, hands-on learning.
