Though this number appears correct per multiple sources, Jordan wanted to note that while Black people comprise 34% of unarmed civilian deaths at the hands of police officers, only 14% of the U.S. population is Black. In other words, unarmed Black people die disproportionately at the hands of police when compared to other unarmed populations.
