Episode 107 - Competing for Car Count, RidgeRunner DQ and More

This week on the Pit Chatter Podcast, Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee break down a packed weekend of racing across the region and ask the big question everybody’s talking about… if there were around 250 cars spread across four tracks, why are we still racing against each other? The guys dive into the direct scheduling conflicts between Tri-County, Hickory, Lonesome Pine, and Newport and discuss what it means for car counts, fans, purses, and the future of short track racing in the region. They also recap the Ted Caldwell Memorial at Newport Speedway where Zach Franks picked up the win over Lee Tissot and Landon Huffman, Kyle Dudley’s domination at Lonesome Pine, and Landon Huffman making his Cleetus McFarland Indy 8000 debut. Plus: * Ridgerunner Late Model Series controversy at Wythe Raceway * Kenny Compton’s disqualification * Benji Hicks scoring the win * Modified Mafia rolling into Oak Level Raceway * Previewing the SMART Modified Tour heading to Franklin County Speedway Real racing talk, promoter insight, hot takes, and plenty of fan interaction from the live chat — this is Pit Chatter.

Episode 106 - Clay, Chaos, and Comebacks

Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee break down a wild weekend and the questions everybody’s asking… Pulaski is back — but did it live up to the hype? Landon Lewis goes from penalty to victory lane at Caraway — is that the drive of the year already? Burt Myers vs Jake Crum at Wake County… was it hard racing or something brewing bigger? Then it gets real… New clay at Oak Level has the potential to change everything — and the speed might be about to pick up in a big way. What’s really going on at Franklin County? Is the SMART Modified race happening? And the question nobody wants to ask but everybody’s thinking — is Ararat BullRing gone for good? Plus, we went back and forth with the fans, answered questions live, and let the comments steer the show like only short track racing can. This one’s got opinions, debate, and a whole lot of truth. 👇 Tap in, listen up, and then sound off.

Episode 105 – Dirt Rising While Asphalt Falls

There’s a shift happening—and if you’ve been paying attention, you can feel it. Episode 105 dives headfirst into a wild weekend that perfectly sums up where short track racing in our region stands right now. Langley made the trip to Princeton and spent nearly four hours at the track without seeing a single race. Frustrating? No doubt. But here’s the kicker—the place was packed, the facility looked great, and the racing surface was in top shape. Everything was there… except the racing itself. Princeton eventually got the show in, but not until around 1:30am—long after Langley and his crew had headed out. Meanwhile, dirt racing keeps grinding. Oak Level Raceway hosted the RidgeRunner Late Model Series opener with 12 cars, followed by 7 at Wythe Raceway the next night. Not massive numbers, but considering the competition from other steel block races across the region, it’s a solid starting point for something that’s trying to grow the right way. The surface at Oak Level is improving—not perfect yet—but help is on the way as Bubba Miller brings in fresh clay from Wythe ahead of the Modified Mafia doubleheader on May 8-9. On the asphalt side, things continue to be a struggle. Franklin County remains the biggest question mark in the region as uncertainty keeps building around whether cars will even hit the track. We break down the latest and what it could mean moving forward. There’s also discussion around Natural Bridge, plus a preview of the opener at Pulaski County Motorsports Park and what kind of car count to expect. IHRA’s second race at Pulaski didn’t quite match the momentum of the first, and we dig into why. And as always, the live viewers brought the heat with questions, comments, and opinions that kept the conversation rolling. Dirt might not have all the answers—but right now, it’s the one still swinging.

Episode 104 - Rowsey Therapy… Is It the End of Racing at Franklin County?

What was supposed to be a straightforward conversation turned into one of the most bizarre episodes in Pit Chatter Podcast history. Franklin County Speedway’s newly announced promoter, Rowsey, joins hosts Langley Austin and Noah Hinchee for Episode 104. The expectation? A breakdown of his new role, plans for the season, and a message to racers and fans about the future of the track. That’s not what happened. Instead, Rowsey admits he doesn’t have details about the race he’s agreed to promote, suggests his role may only involve posting on Facebook, and then delivers a shocking message—telling Langley he needs to reconcile with his father, Whitey Taylor, or there may be no racing at all this season. Confusion sets in quickly. As the conversation unfolds, signal issues cut in and out while Rowsey is on the road—leaving more questions than answers and no real clarity on whether Franklin County Speedway will see a green flag in 2026. Langley is left trying to make sense of it all. Noah is left speechless—which might be a first. After weeks of uncertainty, including the last-minute announcement that the track would be leased just days before opening night, Episode 104 captures the chaos, frustration, and reality of where things stand right now. Is this truly the end of racing at Franklin County… or just another chapter in a story that keeps taking unexpected turns?
