Today’s Boomer & Gio was dominated by heavy Knicks-Spurs Finals hype, breaking down Mitchell Robinson’s bizarre pinky injury, Mike Brown’s thoughts on stopping Wemby, and the sheer surrealness of New York finally playing for a ring. On the diamond, both local teams completed sweeps, highlighted by a mind-boggling, 13-run third inning from the Yankees. The guys rounded out the morning tackling the political fallout from college QB Jaxson Dart’s viral Trump rally intro, Odell Beckham Jr.’s rumored return to the Giants, and classic banter ranging from NYC squeegee guys to AI Dave Simms.
Hour 1 - Knicks-Spurs Preview, Mike Brown On Series, Yanks & Mets Win Big
We started with the Spurs beating the Thunder to set up Knicks/Spurs in the Finals. We also talked about Mitchell Robinson’s injured pinky. Gio said it’s going to feel weird if they lose a game this series because it’s been so long. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and we heard from Mike Brown on facing the Spurs & Wemby. KAT gave a shoutout to Jeremy Lin for making him a Knicks fan. The Yankees scored 13 runs in the third including a Ben Rice 2-run triple. Juan Soto hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach as they swept the Marlins. In the final segment of the hour, we took calls on the upcoming Knicks/Spurs series. Good news for Mitchell Robinson as Mike Francesa knows the surgeon.
Hour 2 - Jax/Carter Thing Finally Done, OBJ Might Still Be A Giant, Mike Brown On Spurs
Jaxson Dart, Abdul Carter and Jameis Winston spoke in front of the media on Friday about Dart introducing President Trump at a rally. Gio hopes this is the last time it’s addressed as it continues to go on for no reason. Odell Beckham Jr to the Giants still has legs. Boomer said even if he signs, he may not be on the opening day roster. We also talked about the Yankees scoring 13 runs in a 43 minute top of the third. Jerry returns for an update but first Gio tells us about picking up his mother-in-law at JFK on Friday. We heard Mike Brown talking about his past with the Spurs but said he wants to ‘kick their ass’. We heard the sounds of the Yankees from the 13-run third. John Harbaugh was a guest on the Mark Schlereth podcast and he asked him about the Dart/Carter situation. A caller wants an intervention with Tommy Lugauer with his Knicks confidence.
Hour 3 - Mitchell Robinson's Pinky, Scores, Giants Looking At Vet Receivers
We talked about Mitchell Robinson’s pinky injury and are trying to figure out how he got it since it wasn’t basketball related. Also, the size of Wemby’s feet, which Gio said are still growing. Jerry with the sounds of Mike Brown talking about the upcoming series with the Spurs. The Yankees had a 13-run third inning to beat the A’s. The Mets beat the Marlins and complete the sweep as Carson Benge led off with a HR. The Giants are working out a few veteran receivers, not just Odell. A female caller can’t believe a male caller said his wife wouldn’t let him watch the Knicks.
Hour 4 - Knicks/Spurs Preview, Judge On The Big Yanks Inning
We discuss the 1999 Knicks team and Gio can’t believe it was almost 30 years ago. We previewed the Knicks/Spurs series which gets underway on Wednesday night. Jerry starts with Mike Brown on comparisons to their series for the NBA Cup. Aaron Judge talked about the 13-run third inning to beat the A’s, Howie Rose on the call as Juan Soto hit a grand slam. The Moment of The Day: A-I Dave Simms has some comments for Boomer. Gio talked about the movie, ‘Project Hail Mary’, and said the alien reveal threw him off.
