episode Colossians: The Supremacy of Christ | Colossians 1:14 cover

Beskrivelse

In this opening sermon on Colossians 1:1–14, Pastor Matt Dean introduces the book as Paul's encouragement to believers living in a culture filled with competing worldviews, religious pressures, and human philosophies. Paul reminds the Colossians—and us—that Christ is supreme over every competing authority and that true spiritual wisdom is found in Him alone. The gospel transforms lives by producing faith, love, and hope, creating communities marked by gratitude, endurance, and joyful obedience. Rather than conforming to the values of the surrounding culture, believers are called to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, rooted in the truth of God's Word and strengthened by His power.

The Supremacy of Christ | Colossians 3:1-11

In this week's message from Colossians 3:1–11, Pastor Jeff Hollis reminded us that because we have been raised with Christ, we are called to set our minds on things above, put to death the sinful patterns of our old lives, and put on the new self that is continually being renewed in the image of our Creator. The Christian life is not a call to defeat sin in our own strength, but to live from the finished work of Jesus, relying on His Spirit and His Word as we wage war against sin and bring every area of life under Christ's loving rule. As we grow in Christlikeness, we are also united as one body, where earthly distinctions cannot define our standing before God because Christ is all, and in all. Pastor Jeff ultimately pointed us to the hope that Jesus is faithful: though the struggle with sin may last a lifetime, our future is eternity with Christ, where faith will become sight and we will be made whole.

The Supremacy of Christ | Colossians 2:16-23

In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul reminds the Colossian believers that because Christ has fulfilled the law and secured their salvation, they must not let anyone judge or disqualify them through man-made religious rules, dietary restrictions, special observances, mystical experiences, or extreme self-denial. These practices may appear wise or spiritual, but they cannot overcome the power of sin and often lead to legalism, pride, or confusion. Instead, believers are called to hold fast to Christ, the head of the Church, from whom true spiritual growth, unity, and maturity come. While every Christian continues to struggle with sin, victory is not found through self-made religion but through the finished work of Jesus, who offers forgiveness, freedom, and new life by His Spirit.

The Supremacy of Christ | Colossians 2:6-15

Pastor Matt Dean walks us through Colossians 2:6–15, where Paul urges believers to continue walking with Jesus in the same way they first received Him—by grace through faith—remaining rooted, strengthened, and thankful in Christ rather than being taken captive by worldly philosophies and human traditions. He warns that sincere belief alone is not enough; the object of our faith matters, and Christians are called to trust in Jesus Himself. Paul then reminds the church of the sufficiency and supremacy of Christ: Jesus is fully God, the head over every authority, and through His death and resurrection He has accomplished everything necessary for salvation. Those who trust in Him have been made alive, completely forgiven, freed from the debt of their sin, and united with Christ in His victory.
