I am guilty of it too, but we need to find a way to break this cycle of pleasing. It is okay to be kind and do things for others but don't make it cost your personal values. Recognize what you want to do versus what you feel obligated to do to keep the peace. Gradually set small boundaries to get back to having confidence without the fear of negative reactions. If your friends don't care what you value, or criticize you often, it might be time to move on to better people who respect your boundaries and feelings. You got this! WOOP stands for Wish, Outcome, Obstacles, Plan and it challenges you to identify what your true wishes are, and what stands in your way. I have started using this mental exercise and it is helping me prepare for things I want to achieve. Deceptively simple but effective! Thank you to the class I took from a Yale professor who introduced this WOOP approach to us that was conceived from Dr. Gabriele Oettingen. I hope it helps you move forward towards the things you would like to do but feel paralyzed like I do sometimes. Cheers!
