United Workers Union paramedics are currently engaging in Industrial action after they’ve seen their wages fall by 9%, amongst other conditions, whilst they’ve worked to protect Western Australia from Covid and other serious issues we face. Paramedics are asking for better pay and conditions, with many paramedics working 13-17 hour shifts with no meal breaks, unable to participate in regular community activities and also being limited to spending Christmas with their families once every 7 years. Rebecca Thompson, Senior Organiser for the United Workers Union, joins the show to chat with Ray. 4ZZZ’s Andy Payne, spoke with Mahnaz Abbasi, a Brisbane woman who decided to use online technology to enable girls in Afghanistan to learn together. Abbasi founded Daneshland, which celebrates their one year anniversary, and was behind the inspiration for the exhibition at Inala Art Gallery, “Still Waiting, Still Fighting” Also joining the show is Megan Krakouer, current WA Senate candidate for the party, Australia’s Voice. Megan Krakouer is a Menang Woman of the Noongar Nation, who is an activist, prominent social justice advocate and law reformer. Krakouer is Director of the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project (NSPTRP) and Director (Wagyl Kaip) of the South West Aboriginal Land & Sea Council. The event will be held at Pride Piazza, starting at 3PM, where the event will feature a speaker circle, rally and march. Nova Sobieralski, member of Queer Liberation Borloo, joins the show to discuss the upcoming event in Borloo this weekend, to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility. Palestinians Don’t Need Sidewalks is a documentary film, that gives us an account of life in Palestine under Israeli occupation. The film was shot prior to Hamas’s jail breakout and takes us on a journey through the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Former Greens Senator, activist & one of the participants in the documentary, Lee Rhiannon, joins Alex to chat about Palestinians Don’t Need Sidewalks, sequel to Palestine Under Siege. Murphy, director of the documentary film ‘Women of Steel‘ & one of the leaders of Wollongong’s Jobs for Women Campaign, chats to Alex about the film and the impact it had. ‘Women of Steel‘ details Wollongong’s Jobs for Women Campaign (1980-1994), where hundreds of migrant/working-class women came together to take on BHP. Initially the campaign seemed to have won, but after the 1983 Steel Slump devastated the city’s economy; the women were forced into the courtroom and onto the streets to face a prolonged battle for equality. The Western Australian State Elections were held on the 8TH of March 2025 and whilst votes are still being officially counted; The Roger Cook led Labor Government (ALP) won for a third consecutive term. This is the first time that a party has won a third consecutive term since 1989, with the result being labelled a “landslide”. Plus the news the mainstream media didn’t talk about.
