‘Meet the people behind the projects’. For 165 years, John Sisk & Son has been building the places where we live, work, play, and pray. Still family-run, the company behind so many iconic projects puts its success down to its people. People with many skills but one goal: to create exceptional places that leave a positive legacy. In ‘Inside Sisk’, we meet the people behind the projects. We hear what drives them, what fulfils them, what it means to be a part of the Sisk family. Their own stories, in their own words.

S4 Ep6 - "Immediately the brain is kicking into gear - how are we building this?"

Project Director Sean Stagg shares the inside story an iconic project that had the eyes of the nation on it - the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road (now Aviva) stadium. Aged just 35yrs old when he got the call, Sean experienced the “pure emotion and excitement’ of being appointed to the project, before the ‘fear’ of what lay ahead took over. But despite the challenges he faced, his firm belief in a successful outcome never waned. In this episode of Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series, Sean shares the highs and the lows of this landmark project and the valuable lessons he learned about problem-solving, community engagement, and work-life balance. Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series explores the enduring impact of construction — not just the projects that transform skylines and cities, but the people, values, and culture that leave a lasting mark long after the work is complete. Unlike previous series, which focused on the challenges, innovations, and stories behind individual builds, this series digs deeper into what it means to create legacy. Through personal reflections from those shaping the built environment, we uncover how buildings, projects, and everyday interactions together can create legacies that last.

What does legacy look like when your job is sustainability? For Sarah-Jane Davies, it’s about ensuring that Sisk’s work leaves places, communities and the planet in a better way than before the work was done.  In this episode of Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series, Sarah-Jane traces her journey from being “the annoying person on sites talking about waste” to becoming Head of Sustainability UK at Sisk, where she is helping to shape the long term sustainability strategy of the company. She also talks about her passion for apprenticeships, community outreach, and her bold plan to plant 1.7 million trees to mark Sisk’s 170-year anniversary. Project Manager Ger Coleman tells the inside story of One Opera Square, the city-centre build that became his legacy project. As a proud Limerick man, Ger always wanted to build at home, and Opera Square gave him that chance. But along with the pride of breathing life back into his home city, came unforeseen obstacles and sleepless nights.  On this episode of Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series, Ger shares the full story of his time on Opera square – from the initial joy of re-shaping Limerick city centre  to how he managed to navigate the twin pressures of overcoming engineering challenges and coping with the eyes of friends and family on his work. We also learn how Sisk is leaving a lasting legacy on the communities in which it works. Caryl Perez came to Sisk as a young graduate and she remembers the nerves of that first day like it was yesterday, “ I was about to go into security and I just broke down.”. Caryl also clearly recalls the warm welcome she received from her new colleagues, and how that turned everything around. And as Caryl has progressed through the industry, to the role of Project Manager that she holds today, the support and encouragement of the people around her has remained central to her success and the fulfilment she derives from her work.  In this episode of Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series, Caryl shares the story of the legacy project that played a major role, not just in her career, but in society in general. She also reflects on the lessons that have shaped her so far -  separating facts from emotions when pressure spikes, adapting your style for clients and contractors, and saying yes to stretch roles even when they’re scary. Inside Sisk: The Legacy Series explores the enduring impact of construction — not just the projects that transform skylines and cities, but the people, values, and culture that leave a lasting mark long after the work is complete. S4 Ep2 - “Our people are creators—they go out every day and create something from almost nothing.”

On Marcus Carne’s first day in construction as a newly qualified Quantity Surveyor, he was handed a shovel and put to work on a trench so that he could ‘learn the value of a pound’. It was an early lesson in the importance of understanding how connected every person on a project is, and the impact that any decision you will make can have.  Today, as Chief Commercial Officer at Sisk, Marcus reflects on other valuable lessons that he has learned throughout his 30-year career, including a very challenging legacy project that opened his eyes to the power of team, purpose and storytelling. He also talks about leadership, responsibility, and the baton we pass to the next team.
