episode Young Stock Podcast - All things beef and grass with Nikki Kennedy cover

Beskrivelse

This week, Martin Merrick talks to Grass10 Advisor Nikkie kennedy on her moving to Ireland from New Zealand and her role as a Grass10 advisor, while the team also discuss BEEF 2026 and generational renewal. While we have featured plenty of young Irish people who have flown the nest to the southern hemisphere, this week we talk to someone who has done the opposite. A native of New Zealan, Nikki Kennedy first arrived in Ireland on Erasmus as part of her studies in third year and hasn’t really looked back since. Five and a half years later, the Kiwi talks about her time in Ireland, the similarities and differences between the two countries as well as her current role as a Grass10 advisor, encouraging drystock farmers to better manage their grass. The team also relay their day spent at BEEF 2026, with their thoughts on generational renewal now becoming a focus for Teagasc for drystock farms also discussed. Sarah also tries to unsuccessfully discuss Mercury going in to retrograde, which goes as well as would be expected. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast. episode Trailer Inside Dairy: weather challenges, award finalists and practical calf advice cover

Trailer Inside Dairy: weather challenges, award finalists and practical calf advice

This week on Inside Dairy, we're discussing the recent weather and what it could mean for grass growth as farmers keep a close eye on conditions across the country. We also look at the finalists for the NDC/Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards, with six Cork farms and two Tipperary farms making the shortlist, while no farms from Connacht feature this year. Plus, we chat to John Maher, head of the Teagasc Grass10 programme, about the current grass situation on farms nationwide, whether drought is becoming a real concern and what farmers should be focusing on over the coming weeks. On The Breakdown, we're talking all things calves. What weights should they be hitting at this stage? How much should they be eating? Should meal be introduced? We also cover minerals, worm dosing and whether it's time for a faecal egg count. Tune in for all that and more on this week's Inside Dairy. ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
