episode Dr. Arielle Schwartz: From Pain To Possibility cover

Beskrivelse

This week we are beyond honored to welcome Dr. Arielle Schwartz to the show! Get out your notebook, this episode is full of juicy nuggets of wisdom that you won't want to miss! Dr. Schwartz is a distinguished clinical psychologist and world-renowned author of several books spanning topics of trauma recovery, neuroscience, yoga therapy. She is a leading voice in trauma recovery, applied polyvagal theory, and is the founder of the Center for Resilience Informed Therapy®. We found her to be a warm, generous conversation partner who is both curious and kind.   We dig into post-traumatic growth, and Dr. Schwartz walks us through stories of resilience, growth, and healing after trauma. She shares stories from her own lived experience that exemplify the work and benefits of reframing life in a way that moves from pain to possibility. Dr. Schwartz gently suggests that fostering positive change and nervous system regulation is both a process and an ongoing practice. We can each start where we are. One of Dr. Schwartz's newest books is The Polyvagal Theory Workbook for Trauma which is chock full of somatic practices that bridge the mind-body connection. Speaking of the mind-body connection, Dr. Schwartz also has a vibrant YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@dr.arielleschwartz913 [https://www.youtube.com/@dr.arielleschwartz913] filled with yoga practices, many of which focus on the vagus nerve, and of course, trauma recovery.   To learn more about Dr. Schwartz's offerings, books, visit https://drarielleschwartz.com/ [https://drarielleschwartz.com/]. episode Getting Curious w/Bridget From Curious Hearts Press cover

Getting Curious w/Bridget From Curious Hearts Press

One of the things we enjoy most here on Pieces to Wellness is looking at familiar things in new ways. This week we are delighted to be joined by Bridget Kleinert, social worker, therapist, mom, author, and overall delightful human being. Bridget is the founder of Curious Hearts Press/Picture Books for Grownups [https://picturebooksforgrownups.com/], a therapy-informed way to use stories for connection, reflection, and self-understanding.  Bridget describes for us that humans are wired to learn through story, and we discuss how picture books can communicate to us in ways that are less likely to trigger our defenses. Bridget also shares some really interesting drama on some of your favorite children's authors. Did you know about Dr. Seuss's Midnight Paintings [https://www.thecollector.com/dr-seuss-midnight-paintings-collection/]? How about Maurice Sendak? Shel Silverstein? We dig deep into the vast imaginative expanse that is available to us on the other side of curiosity, and the unique ways that Bridget helps others explore this landscape using children's books. To learn more about Bridget's offerings, or get her visit her website: picturebooksforgrownups.com [https://picturebooksforgrownups.com/] and follow her on IG @curiosheartspress. episode Our Desired Impact: It’s What We Do Here cover

Our Desired Impact: It’s What We Do Here

Every so often, it's useful to remind ourselves as well as our listeners (especially any new ones!) what we're all about here at Pieces to Wellness. Our desired impact is three-pronged: Educate. Inspire. Support. Those three things are what we do here every week. The Instigator and the Yogi believe in the power of shared storytelling, the value of lived experience, and the vitality of connections built on respect and authentic support. Not only do we have conversations with guests who are subject matter experts in things like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Post-Traumatic Growth, we also bring our own personal experiences onto the show to explore what challenges us and what motivates us. And most importantly, talking to each other, to our guests, and sharing these conversations with the world helps us stay the course, and find support and solace on the journey. Tune in here for a refreshing reminder of what we do here, and then share this episode with someone you care about. Are you struggling with something? episode Exploring Letting Go: Unleashed cover

Exploring Letting Go: Unleashed

This week, we're exploring the topic of letting go from a high level perspective. And what's the first thing you have to do to explore? You have to let go of the idea that you already have all the knowledge, experience, control, etc. Only then can you be truly unleashed (Karen's love of that word is another story for another day). This week we're posing as many questions as we're answering. What do you typically cling to? What's easy for you to let go of? What's the first feeling you experience in the face of uncertainty? Most often we cling to things that make us feel secure or safe, because letting go means facing the unknown. Sure there are circumstances under which letting go is a non-negotiable, it must happen. But rarely is it that clear. Generally, we have to ask ourselves, "Is this [thing/person/relationship] that I'm holding onto limiting me, or helping me grow?" and decide from there. Letting go is how we make room for new things, new experiences, new people in our lives. Literally and figuratively. You can't add more when your fists are closed or full. Even if it feels safer. Take the risk, loosen the grip, and see what happens next. Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss? episode Riding The Waves Of Change: Balancing Accountability & Grace cover

Riding The Waves Of Change: Balancing Accountability & Grace

One of the persistent themes here on Pieces to Wellness is that healing and health are journeys of change and growth. This means that we are also constantly adjusting, re-evaluating, and adapting to what's going on within and around us. This requires the ability to balance accountability and grace, easier said than done. So of course, we had to dig into the nitty gritty of how this shows up for us. Over-emphasizing accountability looks like rigid adherence to routines, structures, ideas, while overdoing it on grace can begin to resemble apathy, rendering us stagnant. Too much accountability is no fun, too much grace holds us back. Karen waxes poetic on the distinctions between contentment and complacence, effort and surrender. Ultimately, we strive to strike a balance in which our thinking and actions are not either/or, black/white. When we're in that sweet spot of accountability and grace, we hold space for joy and progress. And from there, the possibilities are limitless. Are you struggling with something? episode Elevate With Anjali cover

Elevate With Anjali

This week we are delighted to welcome Anjali Mehta onto Pieces to Wellness. Like us, Anjali lives in NY's Capital Region, though she works with clients all over the world. Anjali is a Conscious Life & Parenting Coach, Somatic Breathwork Practitioner, and Immersive Meditation Facilitator. We were drawn to her vulnerability, and openness that what she offers is based in her lived experience; it's not borrowed wisdom. Anjali describes what it means to work as a somatic breathwork facilitator, and how helping people breathe consciously helps people cultivate both attunement and alignment. We talk a lot here about living in alignment with our values and goals. Anjali describes attunement as the practice of bringing the self into the present moment. Right here, right now. Notice, where are your feet? Intentionally cultivating both attunement and alignment is an ongoing moment to moment practice. You know what else is an ongoing, moment to moment practice? Breathing. Most of us breathe unconsciously, and thank goodness we can trust our breath to be there for us. Cultivating the ability to breathe consciously, mindfully, that can be a game-changer. We also share some tips about pausing when triggered, getting past the mask of toxic positivity, and the big question, how can you make an aligned choice when you're not aware of/in alignment with your true self already? Which comes first?  To get in touch with Anjali, follow her on IG @elevate_with_anjali. Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss?
