Beskrivelse

Friday 19 June 2026 Today is Friday the 19th of June, in the 11th week of Ordinary Time. The community of Taizé sing Tu sei sorgente viva. “You are the living spring. You are fire, you are love. Come, Holy Spirit.” Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew 6:19-23 ‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!’ In today’s reading, Jesus speaks these words: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Take a moment to turn inward and to notice how your heart is today. What is occupying your heart most at this moment? Jesus challenges us to consider the value of much that we might consider desirable in everyday life. His simple observation reminds us of how easily worldly wealth can become worthless. Take a moment to consider: what do you truly treasure? What do you value most – hold onto, protect, or depend on for meaning and security? Hold these treasures honestly before the Lord. Jesus goes on to say that the eye is the lamp of the body. Where our attention is, what we take in, doesn’t just inform our physical or intellectual awareness – it shapes our inner life – our sense of who we are. It can lead us toward light — or draw us into shadows. Consider how the things you focus on help you to see more clearly, love more freely, trust more deeply? Or do they? As you listen to the reading once more, allow these questions to remain with you. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!’ “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” In this time of prayer, turn to Jesus and rest in the light of the Lord’s presence. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen

episode Friday 3 July 2026 - Reach out your hand cover

Friday 3 July 2026 - Reach out your hand

Friday 3 July 2026 Today is Friday the 3rd of July, the feast of Saint Thomas, in the 13th week of Ordinary Time. The Kyiv Chamber Choir sing the Creed: “I believe in one God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.” As I start this prayer today, can I join in with this strong, almost exuberant expression of faith? Can I begin by declaring my faith in my God, my creator, my heavenly Father? Today’s reading is from the Gospel of John. John 20:24-29 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’ A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’ There is something important going on deep down inside for Thomas. In his gut there’s a scepticism about all this talk of resurrection. Maybe it’s just too good to be true? Mass hysteria? Something inside him resists a faith that is too easy, too much like a fairy-tale. If Jesus is truly risen, he must still bear the wounds of the Cross. You can’t just put something like that to one side and forget about it, can you? Do you sense those feelings in you too? Are there ‘dark places’ within you still needing to meet Jesus, risen from the dead? Spend a moment looking at the world you live in, places of poverty and hunger, suffering and loss. Can Jesus really be risen there? Look too at the broken places in your own life. What are the wounds that you need God to know about and to heal? As you listen again to the Gospel story, try to imagine Thomas’s face as he places his hands in the wounds of Jesus. This is no feel-good, happy ending – but real life out of real death. A hope so real you could base your life on it. A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’ See if you can find some spark of hope lighting up within you. Hold on to it. Let it grow. Tell the Lord about it and where it might take you. Can you say with Thomas, “My Lord and my God”? Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen

Thursday 2 July 2026 - Your sins are forgiven

Thursday 2 July 2026 Today is Thursday the 2nd of July, in the 13th week of Ordinary Time. 'Saviour of my soul, this day keep me whole.' As you listen to this song by Keith Duke, can you join in this prayer? Can you present yourself now to the One who forgives all our failings and shortcomings, who has given himself freely for our sake, and trust yourself entirely to his mercy? Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew 9:1-8 And after getting into a boat [Jesus] crossed the water and came to his own town. And just then some people were carrying a paralysed man lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, ‘Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.’ Then some of the scribes said to themselves, ‘This man is blaspheming.’ But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, ‘Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, “Your sins are forgiven”, or to say, “Stand up and walk”? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’—he then said to the paralytic—‘Stand up, take your bed and go to your home.’ And he stood up and went to his home. When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to human beings. In today’s Gospel, Jesus relieves a man not just of his physical ailments, but first, of the burden of the past with simple but powerful words: ‘Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven’. Do you still carry the weight of past mistakes and sin? Feeling unforgiven can be like paralysis. When things can’t be put right, we can feel trapped, unable to move on. The future is closed. We can’t grow or walk free. Do you feel like that, or can you remember a time when you did? As you hear the story one more time, imagine yourself lying on that bed, unable to move, trapped in your past. Hear Jesus utter words of forgiveness with a gentle voice. And let him show his power to forgive by saying “stand up and walk”. When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to human beings. The gift of true forgiveness is always a doorway into deeper love. Maybe you want to express something of that now to the Lord? Or just stay in silence, with Jesus standing in front of you, looking on you with great love and tenderness. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen

episode Wednesday 1 July 2026 - Seek good and not evil cover

Wednesday 1 July 2026 - Seek good and not evil

Wednesday 1 July 2026 Today is Wednesday the 1st of July, in the 13th week of Ordinary Time. The choir of Portsmouth Cathedral sing Psalm 85 – Lord thou art become gracious unto Thy Land, thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob. Lord, thou art become gracious unto thy land; thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob. Thou hast forgiven the offence of thy people, and covered all their sins. Thou hast taken away all thy displeasure, and turned thyself from thy wrathful indignation. Turn us then, O God our Saviour, and let thine anger cease from us. Wilt thou be displeased at us for ever? and wilt thou stretch out thy wrath from one generation to another? Wilt thou not turn again, and quicken us, that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. I will hearken what the Lord God will say; for he shall speak peace unto his people, and to his saints, that they turn not again unto foolishness. For his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together: righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall flourish out of the earth, and righteousness hath looked down from heaven. Yea, the Lord shall show loving-kindness; and our land shall give her increase. Righteousness shall go before him, and shall direct his going in the way. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Today’s reading is from the Prophet Amos. Amos 5:14-15, 21-24 Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer me your burnt-offerings and grain-offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon. Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. God's words in today’s passage may sound harsh. But hear them come out of love; love for all the world, love especially for the poor and the vulnerable. When God sees his children exploited and impoverished, there is no ritual observance, no pious sacrifice, that can appease. What is it that stops you from sharing in God’s love for the outcast and those on the edges of society? Do you find yourself just accepting that the world is unjust? Or perhaps the injustice and poverty of so many overwhelms you... How is God with you in these movements of your heart? As you hear those words of God again, remember that God challenges those He loves; he wants us to grow and to share in his joy and love. The passion of his anger is also the passion of his forgiveness. As you listen, allow that passion to stir in your heart. “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Today, can you let these words touch you? Speak to God out of your feelings – or your lack of feelings. Tell him what is in your heart. Ask for the help of his grace. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen

Tuesday 30 June 2026 - Why are you afraid?

Tuesday 30 June 2026 Today is Tuesday the 30th of June, in the 13th week of Ordinary Time. The community of Taizé sing, Nada te turbe: ‘Let nothing trouble you or make you afraid. Those who have God will lack nothing. God alone is enough.’ Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Solo Dios basta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Todo se pasa, Dios no se muda (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) La paciencia todo lo alcanza (Solo Dios basta) Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Solo Dios basta En Cristo mi confianza (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Y de Él solo mi asimiento (Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta) En sus cansancios mi aliento (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Y en su imitación mi holganza (Solo Dios basta) Aquí estriba mi firmeza (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Aquí mi seguridad (Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta) La prueba de mi verdad (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) La muestra de mi firmeza (Solo Dios basta) Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Solo Dios basta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Ya no durmáis, no durmáis (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Pues que no hay paz en la Tierra (Solo Dios basta) No haya ningún cobarde (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Aventuremos la vida (Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta) No hay que temer, no durmáis (Nada te turbe, nada te espante) Aventuremos la vida (Solo Dios basta) Nada te turbe, nada te espante Quien a Dios tiene, nada le falta Nada te turbe, nada te espante Solo Dios basta Today’s reading is from the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew 8:23-27 And when [Jesus] got into the boat, his disciples followed him. A gale arose on the lake, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him up, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We are perishing!’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you of little faith?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm. They were amazed, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?’ Jesus’s reaction in this story is hard to understand. He doesn’t seem that bothered about the storm raging on the sea. But he’s really surprised by the terror and panic of his friends. How come they don’t see that they are totally safe with him around? The sea could be seen as a symbol of the chaos out of which God creates the world, the disorder the world often reverts to. How do you react to the little “chaoses” that come into your life? Do you panic like the disciples? Put up defences? Resign yourself to the inevitable? Or do you put all your trust in the Lord? Now imagine yourself in that situation which threatened you, as you listen to the reading again. Jesus is there with you this time. Tell him, “Lord, save me, I am going down.” Listen to what he says, see what he does. Matthew 8:23-27 And when [Jesus] got into the boat, his disciples followed him. A gale arose on the lake, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him up, saying, ‘Lord, save us! They were amazed, saying, ‘What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?’ Notice where you’ve felt drawn to the Lord in this prayer... Perhaps you felt drawn to the God who will not let you be lost? You might want to speak to Jesus, hand over some of your worries and insecurities... And give Him thanks for all He is to you. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen
