This condition was not only a physical ailment but also carried significant social and spiritual stigma. Lepers were often isolated from their communities to prevent the spread of disease and to maintain ritual purity. In the Gospels, Jesus demonstrates compassion and divine authority by healing lepers, a notable example being the cleansing of the ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19. This healing not only restored their physical health but also reinstated their place in society and their ability to worship in the temple. Lepers in the Bible symbolize both human suffering and the power of faith, healing, and restoration through God’s grace. Their stories highlight themes of mercy, gratitude, and the breaking of social barriers. Relevant Scriptures: Leviticus 13:45-46 “The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp.” (Details the laws regarding leprosy and isolation.) 2 Kings 5:1-14 The story of Naaman, a commander of the Syrian army, who was healed of leprosy by dipping seven times in the Jordan River as instructed by the prophet Elisha. Numbers 12:10 “When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.” (Miriam, Moses’ sister, was temporarily struck with leprosy as punishment for speaking against Moses.) 2 Chronicles 26:19-21 King Uzziah was struck with leprosy for his pride and disobedience when he unlawfully burned incense in the temple. New Testament Matthew 8:2-3 “And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.’ And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, ‘I will; be clean.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Luke 17:12-19 The healing of ten lepers by Jesus, where only one returned to give thanks. “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?” Mark 1:40-42 “And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, ‘If you will, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, ‘I will; be clean.’” Luke 4:27 “And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” (A reference to the miraculous healing of Naaman.) --- © 2025 Scripture Central and Messages of Christ YouTube Channel No portion of this video may be reproduced, re-uploaded Learn more about your ad choices. Why Joseph Smith Met His End (Restoration Revealed Episode 26)

Why Joseph Smith Was Killed (Restoration Revealed Episode 26) 0:00 SLC Church History Museum 3:00 Nauvoo Visitors’ Center with Scott Woodward 5:07 Warsaw Illinois - Persecution of the Saints 7:08 Nauvoo - Internal conflicts and The Expositor 10:08 Carthage Jail - The dungeon cell 12:30 The debtor’s cell and jailer’s bedroom 14:56 The martyrdom 18:47 Sealing their testimonies with their blood In this sobering, deeply researched episode of Restoration Revealed, Casey Griffiths and special guest Scott Woodward take you step-by-step through the events that led to the murder of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum at Carthage Jail on June 27, 1844. This is not a high-level summary — it’s a detailed narrative designed to place you at each moment: the tensions that brought Joseph to Carthage, the conversations and clashes inside the jail, the approach of the mob, and the tragic final struggle that ended two lives and forever changed the Latter-day Saint movement. What you’ll see in this episode: A chronological walkthrough of Joseph and Hyrum Smith’s arrest and confinement. Eyewitness accounts and documented testimony that reconstruct the timeline inside and outside Carthage. An examination of the political, social, and personal forces that fueled the violence. Careful analysis of how events unfolded in the minutes before the attack, the assault itself, and the immediate aftermath. Thoughtful reflection on the legacy of the martyrdom and what it meant for the Restoration.
