This week Shaun provides Sophie with both a belated birthday present and an early Christmas miracle - by doing what he's told and covering a UFO story: the Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident The Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident was a series of reported sightings of unexplained lights near Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, England in late December of 1980 which became linked with claims of UFO landings. The events occurred just outside RAF Woodridge, which was used at the time by the United States Air Force (USAF). USAF personnel, including deputy base commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, claimed to see things they described as a UFO sighting. The incident has become a favourite of UFO hunters around the world. It’s one of the rare cases of reports of an actual landing with physical evidence and that most of the sources are from military officials, giving it more credence than your typical UFO sighting. We'll then delve into some of the alternate theories that have been put forward to explain the reports of the lights in the forest. This week, Craig takes us back in time to 1666 to tell us how a small village showed true courage and fortitude to prevent the spread of plague from beyond its borders. When plague arrived in the village in September 1665 via  a flea-infested bundle of cloth arrived from London, rather than flee, and risk spreading the infection further still, villagers locked themselves away to suffer in isolation. For the next 14 months, plague swept through the village. Estimates put the total number of villagers killed by plague at 260. Whilst a relatively small number in of itself - this is believed to account for roughly 75% of the population. This week, Sophie tell us about a truly bizarre case of Carl Tanzler, a german Radiologist who emigrated to Florida, whose obsession with Maria Elena Milagro de Hoyos continued even after her death. Maria was in her early twenties, has dark haired Cuban-American woman who worked at the same hospital as Tanzler. Considered a local beauty, she was also suffering with Tuberculosis, a typically fatal disease at the time and Tanzler believed he could help cure her. It was in this way he inserted himself into Maria's life, paying regular house-calls, showering her with gifts and declarations of love, to which Maria did not reciprocate. His infatuation stemmed from his childhood in Germany, where Tanzler claimed to have been visited by visions of a dead, purported ancestor, Countess Anna Contstantia von Cosel who revealed the face of his true love, an exotic dark-haired woman, to him. This was the face of Maria. Eventually, tuberculosis claimed the life of Maria and, with permission from the family, he paid for the funeral and built a mausoleum for her, to which Tanzler had the only key. He would pay regular visits to the mausoleum, until one day he stopped. But her death wasn't the end, merely the beginning of his ongoing infatuation and obsession with Maria...
