Guest Host Sam Halligan & Co-Host Deacon Mark Campbell This week, Sam Halligan — Des Moines city director for Forge, a men's discipleship and small group organization — steps in as guest host alongside Deacon Mark Campbell. Bo Bonner returns to the studio June 29. Bo Bonner Calls In from London Bo Bonner joined the show by phone to share updates from a remarkable European journey. His stops included: * Rome — Participated in a Vatican Dicastery on Communication conference on artificial intelligence, timed to Pope Leo XIV's new AI encyclical. Bo and colleagues also recorded an episode of the Vatican Access podcast with Robert Duncan (Catholic News Service), available on YouTube. * France — Gave a presentation on John Henry Newman and Catholic universities to faculty at the Catholic University of the West, with live translation by colleague Luigi Rossi. * London — Currently in residence for his PhD program at Saint Mary's University, the only Catholic university in London. Bo's residential program begins in a few weeks. Bo's key takeaway from the AI encyclical discussions: "Before all else, Jesus Christ is victorious. The sure way forward in this time of a lot of questions is to rest in the heart of Jesus Christ." 📖 Learn more about the Catholic Cosmotechnics for an AI Age discussions and the Vatican Access podcast on YouTube. Watch the film For Greater Glory for an introduction to this heroic chapter of Catholic history, including the witness of 14-year-old Saint José Sánchez del Río. Gospel Reflection — Fr. Nick Smith Fr. Nick Smith, pastor of Saint Patrick's in Perry, reflects on Matthew's Gospel: Jesus's teaching to "turn the other cheek." Fr. Nick reminds us that this teaching only makes sense in light of eternity — God is perfectly merciful and just, and justice ultimately rests in His hands, not ours. Joe Stopulos Update Joe Stopulos, host of Man Up, shared that his father recently passed away from cancer — just 14 weeks after receiving his diagnosis. Today's episode of Man Up (9:00 AM, Iowa Catholic Radio Network) features Part 2 of a raw, personal interview with Dr. Bud Maher on Joe's childhood, his cradle Catholic upbringing, and his journey to deeper faith. Our prayers are with Joe and his family. Sam Halligan on Evangelization & Forge Sam shares his conversion moment — a Eucharistic adoration experience at a young adult Catholic conference in Nashville his sophomore year of college — and how that led to 10 years of full-time missionary work with Damascus before returning to Des Moines to lead Forge's men's small group network across the Diocese. Saint of the Day — Saint Marguerite d'Youville Born in Quebec in 1701, Saint Marguerite d'Youville endured profound suffering — the loss of her father, husband, and four of six children — before founding the Grey Nuns of Montreal in 1737. She is the patroness of widows and those in difficult marriages. The Grey Nuns were named after a mocking nickname referencing her husband's illegal liquor trading — a name the community reclaimed with grace. Maria Benes: How the Eucharistic Pilgrimage Blessed America's 250th Birthday (+ more) | CMS - 07/14/2026

Maria Benes: The 2026 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage Comes Home Maria Benes, director of pilgrimages for the National Eucharistic Congress, joins the show fresh off the completion of the 2026 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, which wrapped up July 5 in Philadelphia after months on the road up the Eastern Seaboard. Timed to America's 250th anniversary, the pilgrimage began at the Our Lady of La Leche Shrine in St. Augustine, Florida — near the site of the first documented Mass in the United States — and continued through historic stops including a Eucharistic procession along Boston's Freedom Trail and a special blessing of the nation near the Washington Monument over Corpus Christi weekend. Maria explains how the pilgrimage grew out of the National Eucharistic Revival and the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, shares a moving story of encounter from the road, and previews what's next as the Church looks toward the next National Eucharistic Congress in 2029. Pope Leo XIV even sent a video address ahead of the closing Mass. From St. Augustine to Philadelphia: Maria Benes on the 2026 Eucharistic Pilgrimage - 07/14/2026

Maria Benes, director of pilgrimages for the National Eucharistic Congress, sits down just after wrapping the 2026 National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, a months-long journey timed to the 250th anniversary of the United States. The route began at the Our Lady of La Leche Shrine in the Diocese of St. Augustine — near the site of the first documented Mass in the country — and traveled north through the original colonies, including a Eucharistic procession along Boston's Freedom Trail and a special blessing of the nation near the Washington Monument over Corpus Christi weekend, before concluding over Fourth of July weekend in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope, even sent a video address ahead of the closing Mass on July 5. Maria traces the pilgrimage's roots back to the USCCB's three-year National Eucharistic Revival and the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, and shares a story of young adults encountering the Eucharistic procession on a boardwalk in Ocean City and recommitting their lives to Christ. She also looks ahead: applications for the next class of "perpetual pilgrims" (ages 19–29) open in the coming weeks, with the next National Eucharistic Congress planned for 2029. * Learn more or apply: eucharisticpilgrimage.org [https://www.eucharisticpilgrimage.org/?utm_source=Iowa%20Catholic%20Radio&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=The%20Catholic%20Morning%20Show] * Perpetual Pilgrim application info: eucharisticpilgrimage.org/perpetual-pilgrim-application [https://www.eucharisticpilgrimage.org/perpetual-pilgrim-application?utm_source=Iowa%20Catholic%20Radio&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=The%20Catholic%20Morning%20Show] Listen to The Catholic Morning Show weekdays at 7 a.m. Central on the Catholic Radio Network, IowaCatholicRadio.com [https://www.iowacatholicradio.com/?utm_source=Iowa%20Catholic%20Radio&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=The%20Catholic%20Morning%20Show], or the Iowa Catholic Radio app. #CatholicPodcast #NationalEucharisticPilgrimage #Eucharist #RealPresence #CatholicFaith #AmericanCatholic #IowaCatholicRadio #CatholicMorningShow #OneNationUnderGod #EucharisticRevival Credits: Produced, Edited, and Mixed by Ayden Pugh, Alexia Baker, and Brady Grimm.   ENJOYING THE SHOW? Mary's Helping Hands Turns 5: Tonia Martin on Serving Iowa Families - 07/14/2026

Mary's Helping Hands started five years ago when two Sacred Heart moms noticed they had an abundance of gently-used baby items and wanted to get them directly into the hands of families in need. What began serving 67 clients in its first year has grown into an organization supporting thousands of Iowa households annually with maternity clothing, baby clothing sized newborn through 2T, and monthly essentials like diapers, wipes, shampoo, and lotion. Tonia shares the story of Brooklyn, a young mother of three who found Mary's Helping Hands through a social media recommendation and has become one of the ministry's biggest advocates — including a handmade baby quilt moment that brought her to tears. Tonia also talks about the volunteer sewers who repurpose old bedsheets and fabric into pack-and-play sheets and washable breast pads, turning donated materials into essential items for new families. 5th Anniversary Open House 📅 Sunday, August 23, 3–5 p.m. — Bring the whole family for treats, games, and a tour of Mary's Helping Hands. Meditate Like a Saint: Fulton Sheen's Path to Prayer – Allan Smith – 07/13/2026

About the Book: The Soul of a Disciple distills Archbishop Fulton Sheen's teaching into six guided retreats — on the Holy Face of Jesus, Our Lady, the Beatitudes, the Eucharist, the Cross, and Holy Week — each designed to take just five minutes a day. Details and ordering: sophiainstitute.com [https://sophiainstitute.com/product/the-soul-of-a-disciple/?utm_source=Iowa%20Catholic%20Radio&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=The%20Catholic%20Morning%20Show] Why Meditation Matters: Smith explains that Sheen's decades of daily Holy Hours shaped his preaching, writing, and media ministry, and that his call to "gaze, remain, become, love, and abide" offers a concrete framework for prayer today. Suffering & Redemption: Drawing on Sheen's teaching, Smith discusses how uniting suffering to Christ transforms it from something to eliminate into something redemptive. Sheen's Beatification: Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified at a Mass on September 24, 2026, in St. Louis. Information and updates: celebratesheen.com [https://www.celebratesheen.com/?utm_source=Iowa%20Catholic%20Radio&utm_medium=Podcast&utm_campaign=The%20Catholic%20Morning%20Show] About the Author: Allan Smith serves on the board of directors for the Sheen Cause and has compiled several Fulton Sheen anthologies through Sophia Institute Press. #FultonSheen #CatholicBooks #SophiaInstitutePress #CatholicMeditation #HolyHour #CatholicAuthors #CatholicRadio Credits: Produced, Edited, and Mixed by Ayden Pugh, Alexia Baker, and Brady Grimm.   ENJOYING THE SHOW?
