episode Regulating your Mood: Tips for Staying Present | The School of Life cover

Beskrivelse

Why is it so hard to regulate your emotions? Learn how to stay in tune with your mood and embrace emotional fluctuations. Read our article, ‘We are made of moods’ to find out more about your changing emotional states: https://www.theschooloflife.com/article/we-are-made-of-moods/ ?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=We%20are%20made%20of%20moods Our moods are affected by the smallest of changes – from fluctuations in our blood sugar content and serotonin levels, to whether or not our partner gave us a kiss before we left for work. In turn, our emotions condition almost every aspect of our behaviour: how we respond to events, react to challenges, and feel about ourselves. Understanding just how powerfully our emotional state impacts our thoughts and actions can help us manage those effects more readily – and build a more stable and forgiving relationship with ourselves. ☀️📚 About The School of Life: We are a passionate group of people on a mission to bring about healing, growth, calm and self-understanding. We derive our ideas from psychology, psychotherapy, philosophy, art and culture. As our name – The School of Life – suggests, we are here to teach people how life can be lived and what can make it truly worthwhile, effective and fulfilling. The difficulty is how to pull any of this off. It tends to feel highly incongruous to try to interrupt the normal panicked, stern or critical way we speak to ourselves for the sake of a moment of stillness and nurture. It can be infinitely easier to look after someone else than to direct generosity inwards. It may in this context help to try out a minor imaginative exercise: to picture ourselves as being, alongside our normal duties, always responsible for looking after a small child, a distinctly sensitive five year old, who happens to be a version of our younger selves…” OUR COLLECTIONS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28XmpcEwc0qydf2jSszQFSht81E https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28XmpckOvZZ_AZjD7WM2p9-6NBv https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28XmpeUL1vz9Su7OmeghBDgmj7X https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28XmpeypJMHfNbJ4RAFkRtmAN3P https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28XmpcpxBm1RoGRx4mVKNRIrKkG https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28Xmpcp7jXVszdNruKUtHZ2zuZb https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28Xmpfv2COuuJaKzy6E2n8nSMdi https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwxNMb28Xmpc1qCJ6RYYh4rKNOOlKtFIK SOCIAL MEDIA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-school-of-life/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theschooloflife?lang=en CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Deanca Rensyta https://www.deancarensyta.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Graeme Probert www.gpmotion.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices. POP CULTURE: Finer Celebrities

It’s easy to criticise modern societies for being ‘celebrity obsessed’. But the problem isn’t an interest in celebrity, it’s the sort of celebrities paraded before us. We don’t need no-celebrities, we need better-celebrities. Enjoying our Youtube videos? episode The Impact of Dishonesty to Transform Your Love Life cover

The Impact of Dishonesty to Transform Your Love Life

Relationships suffer from a fundamental tension between the desire to be honest and the fear of being abandoned. We go into relationships in order to be ‘ourselves’ but were we to really be entirely ourselves, there is a high risk we would be left. Could silence be the price we have to pay for companionship? Or is there another way? Enjoying our Youtube videos? We go into relationships in order to be ‘ourselves’ but were we to really be entirely ourselves, there is a high risk we would be left. Silence seems the price we have to pay for companionship. However much we may claim to be open minded, very few of us genuinely make room for another’s complexity in so far as we are its targets. We say they can ‘tell us anything’ but in practice the topics any of us are really prepared to listen to is small - and lovers unconsciously mutually know it. Tell me who you really are - just leave out most of the details…” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-school-of-life-for-business/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Léon Moh-Cah https://nananastudio.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Graeme Probert www.gpmotion.co.uk Learn more about your ad choices. episode What Is Emotional Neglect? And How to Cope cover

What Is Emotional Neglect? And How to Cope

Emotional neglect - the withholding of parental love during childhood - can have a psychological impact no less profound than other forms of abuse. Before we can start to recover, we first need to acknowledge the scale of its effects. Enjoying our Youtube videos? Such harrowing images make it hard for us to picture that there might be another, in many ways more prevalent yet just as damaging form of injury to which children may be exposed. In this case, there is no physical violence, there is no taunting or shouting. It looks – at first glance – as if all must be well. But that would be to miss the particular kind of wound that can be inflicted through what psychologists term ‘emotional neglect.’...” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Gemma Green-Hope http://www.gemmagreenhope.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Vale Productions https://www.valeproductions.co.uk/ Learn more about your ad choices.
