No Room for Rivalries in the Church

Rivalries can be quite explosive. Two teams (or two fanbases) that oppose each other often or that live in close proximity to each other often become rivals because of their familiarity with each other. They want to beat each other badly. This can be fun and good natured, but it can also be destructive. A rivalry may be fine on a football or baseball field, but it has no place in the church. All Christians and all churches should have the same common goal, which is making disciples of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20). We should never be willing to knock down a fellow believer just to get a ministry position or favor with the pastor. In church life, it is much better to serve alongside someone than to struggle against them.
