Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 10 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 8:12-20 -- Jesus's declaration "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12) lands against the backdrop of the Feast of Tabernacles, where massive torches had just been extinguished in the temple treasury. Standing among the charred remains, Jesus claims to be the fulfilment of everything the festival symbolised. Tracing the theme of light from creation through the Old Testament, we see that darkness isn't merely out there. It resides within every human heart. Jesus offers freedom from that darkness through his death and resurrection. The cross becomes the place where the light shines brightest, where "the light of the world by darkness was slain" yet rose victorious. Followers of Jesus become children of light, shining his light in a dark world while awaiting the eternal city where God himself will be the only light needed. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The True Vine — John 15 | Ben Molyneux

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 21 June 2026 Preacher: Rev Ben Molyneux (St Faith's Anglican Church, Narrabeen) Scripture: John 15:1-17 -- Jesus' declaration "I am the true vine" in John 15 fulfils centuries of Old Testament imagery, where Israel failed as God's vineyard. Jesus is the vine that produces the fruit God requires, succeeding where Israel repeatedly failed despite God's faithful care. The passage holds both warning and comfort: God removes fruitless branches, those not genuinely connected to Christ, while pruning fruitful branches to produce more fruit. The central call is to abide in Christ, maintaining constant, close communion with him through his word, obedience, and dependence. This connection isn't passive belonging but active believing, producing visible fruit of righteousness, love, and joy. The Father, as the vinedresser, works through life's difficulties and his word to cultivate growth in genuine believers. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Way, The Truth, and The Life — John 14 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 14 June 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 14:1-14 -- What if the greatest offer ever made was extended to you personally — a guaranteed place in God's eternal home? In John 14, on the night before he dies, Jesus makes an unbelievable promise to his disciples: in my Father's house are many rooms, and I'm going to prepare one for you. Thomas asks the obvious question: how do we get there? Jesus answers plainly. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Not a way. The way. No one comes to the Father except through him. You can't earn your way there. You can't choose your own path and hope it leads to God. But Jesus has done what we couldn't do — lived the life we failed to live, died the death we deserved, and risen to open the way home. Do you believe it enough to entrust your whole life to him? -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Resurrection and the Life — John 11 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 7 June 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 11 -- Bryan Johnson is spending millions trying to not die. He calls it Project Blueprint. The slogan? Don't Die. He's not crazy. He's just saying out loud what all of us feel. Nobody wants to die. Nobody wants to lose the people they love. Two thousand years ago, a man stood outside a tomb and made the most audacious claim in human history. Not that he believed in resurrection. Not that he could perform miracles. But that he is the resurrection and the life. John 11 is one of the most remarkable chapters in the Bible. Jesus weeps at the graveside of his friend. He doesn't pretend death is okay. He rages against it. And then he calls a four-day-dead man out of a tomb. The raising of Lazarus isn't the main event. It's a sign pointing to something greater — the death and resurrection of Jesus himself, and the promise of eternal life for all who believe in him. Martin Luther called it the great exchange. Jesus took our death. We receive his life. John Lennox, Oxford mathematician and Christian, was asked about transhumanism this week. His response? You're too late. The problem of physical death was solved when God raised Christ from the dead 20 centuries ago. Is death the end? Jesus says no. Do you believe this? -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Door — John 10 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 31 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 10 -- Over a quarter of Australians no longer feel the world is a safe place. Most of us are carrying a quieter version of the same question: am I actually safe? In John 10, Jesus says: I am the door of the sheep. Not a door. The door. Jesus didn't just point to a door. He became the door — with his own body. The cross is the threshold. His death is what opens it. And once you're through, you're held. No one can snatch you from the Son's hand. No one from the Father's hand. True safety is not the absence of danger — it's the presence of the one who holds all things and holds you. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. The Power of Pentecost — Acts 2:1-13 | Mitchell Eidse

Series: Stand Alone Date: 24 May 2026 Preacher: Pastor Mitchell Eidse (from End Church, Brisbane) Scripture: Acts 2:1-13 -- Pentecost was God's answer to an impossible mission. Using the geography of Acts 1:8 as a guide, Pastor Mitch traces three works of the Spirit that turned fearful fishermen into the front edge of a global movement: the Spirit fills, bringing God's presence to dwell in every believer; the Spirit spreads, crossing cultural and linguistic barriers to reverse the curse of Babel; and the Spirit sends, extending that 2,000-year chain of witness to us, here, now. The Great Commission was never meant to be fulfilled in human strength. The same Spirit poured out at Pentecost is the power available to every Christian today — including in Brisbane, which is, quietly but measurably, becoming spiritually curious again. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ.
