7/5/26, Still Sovereign

Psalm 76 is a divine victory song, declaring God's magnificent triumph over His enemies. Through it, we learn that God is sovereign over His people, His enemies and the nations. Because God reigns, He is present with His people, works even the evil of the world for His purpose, and brings the gospel to the nations, drawing sinners to Himself. Psalm 74 gives us the words to pray when we don't have them; when our circumstances are just too dire. This liturgy for the unthinkable instructs us to protest with questions, look backwards to creation and the Cross, and pray to God to remember His covenant. Our God is the King from of Old, never forgetting His covenant people, so when life is in awful ruins, we must learn to pray from within our faith. 6/7/26, Until I Went into the Sanctuary of God…

This first prayer of a worship leader in Psalms Book III presents two problems: envying the arrogant and the prosperity of the wicked. This is contrasted with the promise that God gives good to those who are pure in heart, who are undivided in their devotion to God. Envy is a heart problem and leads to a transactional form of religion. Psalm 73 provides a solution to the two problems it presented and encourages readers to have an undivided heart.
