Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is typically diagnosed by identifying the following ADHD symptoms: •Makes mistakes easily •Lack of attention to detail •Does not listen when spoken to directly •Doesn’t complete tasks •Cannot play quietly •Problems organizing •Loses things •Frequent fidgeting •Too much energy •Talks too much Many ADHD symptoms are normal childhood behaviors, and a poor diet can exaggerate all of them. ADHD is often treated with Adderall and Ritalin, which make lots of money for Big Pharma. The definition of ADHD has been dramatically expanded to make it more diagnosable, putting more people on medication. A double-blinded study showed that after 36 months, any benefits from Adderall faded to zero. It also has side effects such as aggressive behavior or a dulled mood. ADHD involves a metabolic problem with the prefrontal cortex of the brain. These metabolic changes affect the way the brain metabolizes fuel. If the brain is starved of fuel, you may exhibit symptoms like a lack of attention and hyperactivity. Chemicals like food dyes, artificial sweeteners, sugar, starch, and MSG tremendously impact behavior. Increasing dopamine can improve focus and feelings of calmness. Foods such as meat, fish, eggs, and cheese are high in the amino acid L-tyrosine, the precursor to dopamine. Research has shown that micronutrients, especially B6, magnesium, and zinc, can significantly decrease ADHD symptoms. Omega-3 fatty acids and fish oils can also improve symptoms without side effects. Vitamin B1 is one of the most overlooked nutrients, especially in psychiatric conditions. When a child consumes a lot of glucose, vitamin B1 is depleted, inhibiting the brain’s ability to utilize fuel. If an adult or child is experiencing ADHD symptoms, they should switch to a low-carb diet so their body can run on ketones. Ketones will fuel the neurons and restore a sense of calmness and increased attention span. Manuel Suarez is going to share his incredible story and how he uses the keto diet and intermittent fasting as tools to deal with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a situation where you can’t produce insulin, which means you can’t regulate your blood sugar. A person with type 1 diabetes depends on insulin medication to keep their blood sugar from going too high. But, if you lower your carbohydrates, you can decrease your need for insulin. High blood sugar is unhealthy, but so is high insulin. The goal is to take the least amount of insulin possible to have normal blood sugar levels. Before keto and fasting, Manuel was taking around 40 units of fast-acting insulin a day and 25 units of long-acting insulin a day. After being on the keto diet and intermittent fasting, he only takes two to five units of fast-acting insulin daily and ten units of long-acting insulin daily. One of the components he attributes his success to is exercising regularly. What works best for him is a high-intensity workout for 30 minutes three to four times per week. A key tip to take away is that if you’re doing OMAD, try having your meal between 2 pm and 3 pm to maximize your results. In this video, we’re going to talk about the best and worst oil for deep frying. Seed oils are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Vegetable oil is actually seed oil—it doesn’t come from vegetables. Seed oils go through industrial processing involving heating and the addition of solvents like hexane, a chemical found in gasoline. This process allows seed oils to be shelf-stable for long periods of time. Around 25% to 30% of our calories come from seed oils. When you cook processed foods like donuts in seed oils, you’re combining sugar with fat and heat. This process, called glycation, creates sticky proteins in the body. Fast food oil is reheated and reused repeatedly. The more it’s heated, the more toxic it becomes. Seed oils were not originally created for human consumption. They’re incredibly damaging to the mitochondria and lead to insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, obesity, heart disease, and an increased risk for cancer. Soybean oil causes the most damage to the body, followed by corn oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil. Healthier cooking oils for frying include avocado oil, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, beef tallow, butter, and ghee. Keep in mind it's best to cook over low or medium heat. Pan-frying, air-frying, and stir-frying are healthier options than deep-frying over high heat.
