Learn how to avoid vitamin D side effects, which are very different from vitamin D toxicity. Watch this episode next: Reset Your Body in 5 Days (With Zero Food) [https://open.spotify.com/episode/4oKZ046rIAE3zwxDb06ZaO] 0:00 Introduction: Vitamin D dangers 0:10 Understanding vitamin D toxicity 1:10 Vitamin D and magnesium 1:53 Zinc and vitamin D 2:20 Vitamin K2 and vitamin D 2:33 Vitamin D and vitamin A 3:11 Vitamin D supplements 4:12 Food sources of magnesium 4:48 Zinc and vitamin K2 DATA: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3627603/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles... Vitamin D needs magnesium to function properly in the body. The more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you need. Magnesium prevents vascular calcification, the main problem associated with vitamin D toxicity. The vitamin D receptor is dependent on zinc. Like magnesium, your zinc requirements increase when you take vitamin D. Zinc deficiency symptoms include an altered sense of taste and smell, acne, flaky skin, and lowered testosterone. When you increase your vitamin D intake, you’ll need more vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 helps prevent the buildup of calcium and also helps to drive calcium into the bones and teeth. The active form of vitamin A, called retinol, is also an important cofactor for vitamin D. Vitamin A receptors sometimes bind with vitamin D receptors as a complex. Vitamin A also helps keep calcium out of your arteries. Always take vitamin D3, not D2. Vitamin D2 is less potent and is typically synthetic. Avoid synthetic vitamin D3 supplements and supplements with fillers such as maltodextrin or glucose syrup. Leafy greens, chocolate, certain nuts, and pumpkin seeds are the best food sources of magnesium. When choosing a supplement, look for magnesium glycinate. The best food sources of zinc are red meat and shellfish. If you take a zinc supplement, consume it in a blend with other trace minerals. For every 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 that you take, you’ll need 100 mcg of vitamin K2. MK7 is the best form. Vitamin K2 is found in high-quality grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, grass-fed beef, and eggs. When using high doses of vitamin D, always check with your doctor. High doses of vitamin D can increase blood/urine calcium levels resulting in calcium deposits in the kidney. Also drink 2.5 liters of fluids per day, take cofactors with vitamin D (magnesium, K2 and zinc) and have your doctor monitor your PTH, vitamin D blood levels and creatinine and avoid excess calcium supplements of high calcium foods when taking vitamin D levels over 10,000 IUs. It’s best to get your vitamin A from food. Egg yolks, liver, and cod liver oil are the best sources. A new study on erythritol and heart attacks has been in the news and found its way to social media—let’s talk about it. This study correlates erythritol in your blood to higher incidents of heart attacks and strokes. However, I see some serious problems with this study. Here are four key points about this study: 1. Correlation does not mean causation. 2. This study was based on endogenous erythritol and did not measure dietary erythritol. The body makes endogenous erythritol. 3. The body produces erythritol when you metabolize sugar, have oxidative stress or belly fat, or consume alcohol. The great majority of people in this study were in poor health, so how do we know erythritol was the problem? 4. Other research has liked erythritol to many different health benefits. Could it be that erythritol is increasing in the body to counter the bad effects of sugar? It seems to me that erythritol is something that’s trying to help you and not hurt you. Today we're going to talk about the absolute worst food for the heart: trans fats. While sugar is bad for the heart, trans fats are even worse. In 2015, the FDA no longer classified trans fats as safe. Consuming trans fats increases the risk of several serious health issues, including: • Heart attack • Stroke • Type 2 diabetes • Cancer • Increased LDL • Decreased HDL • Inflammation • Autoimmune diseases • Infertility • Tendon and bone degeneration Partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fats, but products that contain either partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated fats should be avoided to help protect against heart disease and other health problems. It turns out that animal feed still contains trans fats. This means that you could consume trans fats indirectly by consuming animals fed trans fats. Restaurants also commonly serve foods containing trans fats. There's even a loophole that allows half of a gram of trans fats in one serving size to claim that a product has zero trans fats. Overall, it's crucial to read food labels and be aware of what you're eating, especially at restaurants. Discover the benefits of liver and why you really need to start consuming it. 0:00 Introduction: The benefits of liver and why you need it in your diet 0:35 Nutrients in liver 1:14 Is liver toxic? 2:40 Why you should consume liver 8:38 Action steps 11:25 Learn more about detoxification! Let’s talk about why you should start consuming liver. Liver is the most nutrient-dense food on earth. Many people don’t want to consume liver because they think it’s filled with toxins. But, while the liver helps you get rid of toxins, it doesn’t store toxins. Another misconception is that you will get an overload of certain nutrients if you consume liver regularly. This may happen if you consume synthetic vitamins in high amounts, but liver doesn’t contain synthetic vitamins. There is a very common genetic problem that can lead to a cascade of effects in the body, including: • A buildup of unusable iron (that can cause symptoms of both high iron and low iron) • A lack of neurotransmitters (leading to anxiety or depression) • A lack of DNA repair (can increase your risk of certain cancers) • An increased risk of colon cancer • Inflammation • Fatigue • Poor cognitive function (leading to decreased memory, focus, and concentration) • Estrogen dominance (can increase your risk of certain cancers) • Low testosterone • Less protection against autoimmune conditions • Less protection against adverse reactions that can occur after vaccines To help with this issue, you need plenty of folate and B12. But synthetic versions of these vitamins can make things worse. However, liver is the best food you can eat for this issue. It has mega amounts of folate and vitamin B12, as well as other associated nutrients you need for this condition. If you don’t like consuming liver, you can take a supplement that has high amounts of the correct forms of vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and folate. Action steps: 1. Consume more folate and B12 2. Avoid synthetic foods enriched with folate and B12 3. Minimize alcohol consumption 4. Stop taking synthetic vitamins Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 57, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting.
