One of the biggest fears in eating disorder recovery is: “If I start eating more… will I eventually have to restrict again to stop gaining weight forever?” In this episode, I unpack the science of metabolic adaptation in eating disorder recovery — why energy needs often increase with renourishment, what actually happens to your metabolism during restriction, and why recovery doesn’t mean gaining weight forever. I also share my own experience recovering from chronic underfuelling, how my maintenance intake has changed over time, and why healing your body means bringing systems back online — not “breaking” your metabolism.
