What do Bloody Mary, John Hooper, 1776, and Christian Nationalism have in common?

In this episode of Notes from the Pulpit we examine the brutal death of (arguably) the Father of Puritanism, John Hooper, under the brutal regime of 'Bloody Mary'. Hooper, and those separatists like him, led some to flee to the New World to found new colonies. These colonies would form the foundation for America and give us reason to celebrate the 250th birthday! From the murder of men like Hooper we learn an important historical lesson, Christianity from a top-down legislative approach has always led to persecution. Despite this, Christian Nationalism seems either naive or ignorantly complicit in desiring a Christian prince.

JD Hall on Dispensationalism

In this mobile edition of Notes from the Pulpit, I lay out some of the generational divisions that are taking place before going into some of the basic beliefs of Dispensationalism. Hall's (mis)characterization of Dispensationalism's origins beginning with John Nelson Darby is classic historical regurgitation. He and many others have used Darby as a scapegoat for an otherwise complex movement that developed over time. Finally, and more importantly, Hall, as with so many others, claim that God's future plan for Israel is limited to dispensational beliefs. It's simply not true. That God isn't finished with Israel has been the majority position held by Christians since the New Testament, including the Reformed, Puritans, Charles Spurgeon, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, and others.

In this brief review-like episode, I bring our attention back to creation and image of God in order to help us refocus on answering those questions. In doing so, we are more prepared to respond to the coming assault of the technocrats, AI, and humanoid robots.
