Lindsay Clancy's Phone Told Its Own Story — A Detective Laid It Out

A Massachusetts State Police detective specializing in cell phone forensics spent today's session in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial reconstructing exactly what was on her phone in the days and hours before her three children died. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, is charged with murdering 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan by strangling them with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She's pleaded not guilty and is pursuing an insanity defense — attorney Kevin Reddington arguing severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication left her not criminally responsible. Detective Timothy Chiappini read a journal entry pulled from the phone in which Clancy described resentment toward her older kids, saying they were getting in the way of her bonding with Callan. He testified about her struggles with sleep training Callan and stopping breastfeeding, and her stated desire to parent each child like a first child. Chiappini also flagged photos edited on the phone on January 23 — one day before the killings — and mapped out the calls, texts, and location data from that final night. Reddington used cross-examination to redirect attention to a different category of searches on the same device, and to a series of texts between Clancy and her mother, laying groundwork for the defense's psychosis argument. Prosecutors maintain Clancy knew exactly what she was doing. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Husband Patrick Clancy was running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks. Clancy Trial Bombshell Unravels: Suicide Search Wasn't Even Hers, Trooper Admits

A digital forensics witness delivered one of the more whiplash-inducing moments of the Lindsay Clancy trial today, and it happened in the space of a single cross-examination. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is charged with murdering her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — allegedly strangling them with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and her attorney Kevin Reddington is mounting an insanity defense built around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. Kyle Pavao, a Massachusetts State Police cyber crime unit examiner, testified he pulled a search for "how to commit suicide" off the family's Surface Pro, along with searches tied to Tom T. Hall's suicide and Wikipedia's suicide methods page. On direct, it read like a roadmap to the state's timeline. Then Reddington got up. Pavao conceded the search actually ran on Patrick Clancy's computer in August 2022 — months before the deaths — and that there's no way to identify who was actually typing. He also confirmed the machine held a wide range of other searches about medications, side effects, and bipolar disorder. Context the state didn't lead with. Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Was Lindsay Clancy's Doctor Qualified To Rule It Out?

Ruling out a condition you have never encountered is a different act than ruling out one you know. That question runs through the medical testimony in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial. Clancy stands charged with three counts of first-degree murder, all pleaded not guilty, in the January 24, 2023 deaths of her three children. She has not contested causing their deaths. The defense claims postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder are why she is not criminally responsible. The state's argument is that she acted knowingly and should be held accountable. Dr. Alia Goodheart of McLean Hospital testified her caseload had never included one, and could not say how many postpartum depression patients she had treated in twenty years. Dr. Jennifer Tufts testified she was not certain how rare the condition is, and that she had not treated any such patients in the period before Clancy came to her. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski for part two of three. Shavaun has practiced for more than thirty years across trauma, anxiety, depression, and the psychology of violence. The conversation covers the records that were never requested, the releases that were never signed, and fourteen video appointments with a psychiatrist who was never in the same room with her. It covers what it means that Clancy spent her career as a labor and delivery nurse and was treated as a reliable reporter by everyone who saw her. It also covers the care that held up. A psychiatric nurse practitioner gave Clancy her personal cell number and called her on a day off. Neither has admitted liability. Julie Paul launched South Shore Hospital's Perinatal Behavioral Health Program in 2018 and met Clancy through Clancy's then-mother-in-law, a nurse at the same hospital. Their contact lasted about ten days because Paul was leaving for another job. Tufts finished her residency in July 2022, the month before Clancy's first appointment. Is Lindsay Clancy's Voice Story Even Believable?

Four clinicians treated Lindsay Clancy in the months before her children died, and each of them has now testified about what they saw. None of them described psychosis. Her defense says she was hearing a voice instructing her to kill her three children and then herself. Clancy's not guilty pleas cover three counts of first-degree murder in the Duxbury deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan on January 24, 2023. The defense has never argued she wasn't responsible for their deaths. Prosecutors contend she planned it and carried it out knowingly. Tony Brueski brings in psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, who has practiced for more than thirty years across trauma, anxiety, depression, and the psychology of violence, for part one of a three-part conversation. The starting point is how uncommon this is. Prevalence figures cluster around one to two cases per thousand deliveries. Researchers describe episodes where disorientation and total clarity trade places inside the same day, which is why a patient can look fine in a twenty-five-minute appointment. Shavaun addresses the timing. This illness normally shows up within days or weeks of a birth. Callan had turned eight months. She separates psychosis from psychopathy, explains where an intrusive thought stops and a command voice starts, and takes on why Clancy told her providers one thing and her husband another. She closes on the fact prosecutors lean on hardest: that Clancy scheduled her own appointments, advocated for herself, and presented with clear, linear thinking right up to the day before. What Patrick Clancy Says He Was Doing That Evening

One line of forensic testimony in the Lindsay Clancy trial has convinced an enormous number of people that her husband was the one holding those exercise bands. Search Lindsay Clancy fingerprints and you will find it everywhere, usually with his name attached to it. Trooper Jonathan O'Loughlin testified that investigators recovered no usable fingerprints from the knife or the three bands. If her prints were not on them, the argument runs, somebody else was holding them. Tony Brueski takes that argument seriously enough to check it against the rest of the same testimony. Then he keeps going down the list. What a forensic toxicologist told the jury about the four medications in her blood. What an interior bedroom door actually does. Who was on the other end of two phone calls that evening and what they heard. Who is testifying at Plymouth Superior Court, and which of those witnesses are named in the civil suits. And a phone conversation from the first anniversary that has been sitting in the open for two years while everyone argued past it. There is a difference between no usable fingerprints and no DNA, and the two keep getting blended together. Her DNA was on those bands, and both sides agreed to it in open court. On August 4 she answered the judge out loud, more than once, agreeing that the Commonwealth would not have to prove certain forensic facts about the blood, the bands and the DNA.
