7News Just In
A world-first IVF trial led by national fertility clinic Genea is investigating whether the immune system, specifically natural killer cells, is a factor in repeated failed IVF attempts and recurrent miscarriages. The trial will recruit up to 1,600 patients nationally, using a simple blood test to identify if natural killer cell activity is abnormal. The research aims to help women who experience recurrent implantation failure, affecting 10-15% of IVF patients, by potentially allowing doctors to modify the immune environment before embryo transfer.
