GROVE HILL — Waste Management was the low bidder for Clarke County’s solid waste business when bids were opened at Tuesday’s county commission meeting. A bid was not awarded pending review but it appears that county residents will see a significant reduction in their costs. Waste Management bid .82 per month for weekly residential pickups; the current residential charge is .10 monthly. An add-on of .68 per month was available for picking up bulky items. MOBILE — The Mobile County Commission on Monday said it is powerless to ban a proposed data center in Calvert after opposed citizens cited noise pollution, water contamination and wetlands and wildlife concerns.
