110 ICU Admissions to Rebuilding Her Life: Meghan's Story With Stiff Person Syndrome and CRPS

Meghan was 16 — an athlete, a high-achiever, a healthy teenager — when her body began doing things no one could explain. What started as a sudden cascade of severe symptoms escalated rapidly into a 32-hour seizure, a ten-day coma, and the loss of her limbs and, for a time, her mind. Over twelve years, Meghan was admitted to the ICU more than 110 times, living with a feeding tube and using a wheelchair. Her family traveled to the country's most respected medical institutions looking for answers — and ran out of places to go. Along the way, Meghan was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) — a rare autoimmune neurological condition. In this episode, Meghan shares — in her own words, as an adult looking back — what those twelve years were really like.
